Why Should I Own A Certified Pre-Owned Car?
|   Tuesday, June 03, 2014
If you've been looking for a used car and have been browsing through used car dealerships in South Jersey, you can narrow down your search to certified pre-owned or CPO cars. CPO cars may have a higher price tag than used cars that have not been certified, but you can be sure that they have gone through a thorough inspection at the dealership.

The best CPO cars are the ones that have been certified by a manufacturer's franchised dealer, because these have met the manufacturer's criteria for inspection, have been repaired, and come with a factory extended warranty.
Manufacturer-certified or factory-certified pre-owned vehicles also qualify for the perks of a CPO program, which includes free roadside assistance. What are the reasons why you should buy one?

It's more wallet-friendly than buying new.
Buying a CPO car is the next best thing to buying a new car on a used-car budget. If you are unsure of being able to meet the payment requirements of a new car and are completely content with having a pre-owned one instead, a CPO car may be just the thing to suit your needs. Deciding to go with a used car means you've already weighed down the pros and cons—there may be a few problems (a small scratch, brake pads to replace, noisy wipers, etc.) and troubles along the way you have to deal with, but those are nothing compared to the amount you'll be able to save by buying secondhand.

You'll have a quality, almost-new car.
A manufacturer-certified or factory-certified pre-owned car means it has gone through a multipoint inspection, the needed repairs and replacements have been made, and is covered by the same warranty given to new cars. It is advised that buyers read about the items that are covered by the CPO warranty so you can be sure about what you're getting. Factory-certified cars also fall within the manufacturer's age and mileage limits, so you can be certain the car you're getting isn't old enough to be your grandchild. The age limit depends on the manufacturer, but most cars that are eligible for certification should not be older than six years old. As for mileage limits, most manufacturers set a maximum odometer reading of 80,000 miles.

The level of risk is lower.
Keep in mind that CPO cars are still used cars, which means that there is still some level of risk involved. However, the likelihood of a factory-certified pre-owned car suddenly stalling is significantly less than that of a used car that has not been certified, thanks to the comprehensive multipoint inspection and repairs it has gone through. If you do encounter a problem with your CPO car, the warranty makes it easy to have it repaired.

There are added perks.
Some CPO programs provide buyers with added bonuses, such as free roadside assistance. And because CPO cars are slightly more expensive than non-certified used cars, buyers are offered cash incentives and lease programs. They are also entitled to low-interest loans to make CPO car buying easier on the pocket.

While certified pre-owned cars are not perfect, they're ultimately better than used cars that have not been certified. The added premium can certainly bring you the peace of mind that, even if your car isn't entirely new, it has been inspected and has passed the quality standards set by its manufacturer.
