Volvo's plans to build Large Coupe project is still on hold
|   Saturday, December 20, 2014
Earlier Volvo had a plan positively to make a large concept on coupe and they still are interested. But currently this concept is struggling to make its way through some burdens which resulted in holding up even further.

From last few years Volvo has been looking to build a new coupe concept based car so that it can take on high tech models such as BMW's 6 series and Mercedes Benz's E class etc. But Anders Gunnarson, the Exterior Design manager of Volvo said that they are really interested to create a new concept coupe since this move can give a big boost to their brand as a real image changing concept.
C70 had done the same in 1990s but currently this plan is held by the company.

As Gunnarson said, the company chief's 100% focus is on launch of new SUV XC90. It is a second generation model which has already been unveiled this year in Paris auto show. It is said to be the first vehicle on Volvo's Scalable Production Architecture (SPA). It is believed that around $12 billion were spend to develop this model.

The XC90 may directly spawn traditionally made wagon and sedan variants, might be dubbed V90 and S90 respectively. SPA will underpin Volvo's upcoming version S60 sedan and V60 wagon with XC60 SUV. Previous reports indicated that it will be V40's replacement and S40 sedan too. Also they will use XC40 SUV based on platform share with Geely.

Volvo invested a lot in its new three / four cylinder based engines which are augmented through turbo charging but it also uses plugged in hybrid tech at some cases. Volvo has assembled massive coupes earlier, based upon completely coupe idea so that it can cope with like of Mercedes Benz's W class models and BMW R series models. But sadly this operation is held on currently.

Anders Gunnarson explained to various media that they need to have tons to assemble Coupe ideas, but producing a large model with coupe concept can be a very good move which company really wants to have. They have done it previously with C70 during 1990s and current plans are situated in maintain position.

On the production of new model XC90, most of the staffs have engaged themselves and prime motto of the company is to make it a distinct one. Hence, they are not being able to give focus on making a large coupe but it does not mean that there is not hope. In future, after the launch of XC90, they will come back to the plan of large coupe concept as this will bring a new era to their brand.

Company claims that the XC90 has the power to fulfill both wagon and sedan features at once. It will be liked by every mum and every dad around the world. In order to go along with mannequin versatility based platform on automotive, Volvo decided to invest even more on three cylinders and four cylinders based engines for better sales and demand.
