Volvo Working on Nanotechnology for Enhanced Battery Life
|   Saturday, October 19, 2013
Volvo has just created a new network of energy storage in cars. This technology should work wonders for the future of our automobile industry. This new battery is composed out of carbon fiber and polymerized resins along with super capacitors and nanostructure batteries. This could use a car's body to be used as a virtual energy storing device, hence, increasing storage capacity quite a few times while reducing overall weight.

Volvo claims that its boot lid potentially has sufficient energy to supply total voltage present in today's batteries.
Imagine what the completely charged external body of a car could do. This would also make futuristic batteries easy to charge than conventional batteries. An additional intake plenum has been formed as well and this is sufficiently large to charge a 12 Volt system. Strength however will not be compromised in any manner.

This technology is bound to save weight to a maximum as no extra battery needs to be carried around. This technology however faces a few obstacles at the moment while engineers are working their way up to solve these problems. This technology has finally been stored into a test mule S80, after being aggressively tested for a period of three years.

Volvo believes in substituting parts on an electric vehicle with these parts as they would result in saving manufacturing costs. Dry weight on the Volvo S 80 1585 kg while reduction in additional battery takes this to 1348 kg. Just like other conventional hybrid or electric vehicles, this vehicle is charged either via brake regeneration or dedicated charging points. In either case, we get what we need via convenient methods.

Volvo claims electric vehicles are the future and their new technology will play a pivotal role in this sphere. This is a commercially viable project according to Volvo and its nine other partners as rechargeable body panels have their own set of advantages over conventional battery networks. Advanced engineering also makes this easy and risk free. Hence, there are no chances of short circuiting in any way.

Active charge replaces passive charge throughout the body of a vehicle, which in turn helps power the vehicle and all its electrical components.
Start / Stop and other advanced drive enhancing features have been added along with advanced safety measures. These make this test mule safe in all senses and perfect for use as a commuter. Volvo hopes to attract a large portion of customers with their latest technology and this should be highly successful considering changing needs of the new market.

Current increase in the price of crude oil is also a major deterrent for people planning on buying a vehicle and this is where these innovative technologies come in handy. If these current tests are successfully performed, we will soon be able to travel further on similar battery charge. This could lead to a brighter future in terms of electric and hybrid vehicles. Stay tuned as we will keep you posted about the latest developments and news as they come in.
