Volvo showcases the Advanced V40 Cross Country
|   Thursday, February 07, 2013
The all new Volvo V40 Cross Country may be designed to represent a soft roader, although just one of the many engine options can be effectively mated to a four wheel drive option. The vehicle also does not have any awe inspiring diesel engines in its lineup and a 2.5 liter five cylindered turbo charged petrol engine - displacing 251 BHP – is the only decent engine in the line p.

The V40 Cross Country features an increase in ride height measuring 40 mm and is connected to a Hill Decent Control.
This vehicle however features a longer wheelbase, rim size and a separate body kit, hence giving the vehicle a whole new look. Kick plates and protectors are however in place and the lower section of the vehicle has been completely overhauled.

The suspension feels very responsive and it feels good to be inside the cabin when the Cross Country glides over asphalt. However, it is a totally different story once you head off road. The quirkiness of the engine quickly fades away and the dynamic handling and acceleration disappears into oblivion as quickly as it had appeared. The increase in ride height also gives the driver a commanding view of the road up front and the Cross Country is a very dominant vehicle on the road.

The drive train is a fine example of German engineering and the transmission system also needs special mention. The six speed automated transmission system works closely with the engine to churn out optimum power possible and this benefits the vehicle on road. Even though people have criticized the R Design transmission system, it works fine on the V40 Cross Country.

Volvo has designed the Cross Country for quick and quirky performance while the traction and road grip is also quite interesting. The Cross Country can swing into turns in speed and excessive wheel spin and body roll is absent. The overall rode quality is better than the V40 and the Cross country is surprisingly agile. The V40 Cross Country is proof of what German engineering is all about.

People should opt for the Cross Country over the V40 for the offered value for money. However, heading off road with the Cross Country is not recommended as the vehicle is not built to take on Mother Nature at her finest, although it is quite impressive on the road. Expected to be priced close to £33,875, the V40 Cross Over is the perfect car to own and drive.

It provides for a comfortable journey while the ergonomics are perfect for being the best family car in its segment. The cabin has been overhauled and the new interior feels posh. There is sufficient head, leg and shoulder room to accommodate five people with ease and under seat suspension makes sure that there is no room for complaints. An addition performance and comfort pack is available via Volvo and this could raise the price by £10,000. Volvo is planning on introducing all wheel drive on all the models, although this has not been confirmed as of yet.
