Volvo Reveals Interior Specifications on their Latest XC90 Concept Estate
|   Tuesday, March 04, 2014
Volvo has grand plans for the future and this is evident in the way they have developed their latest XC90 estate, expected to go on sale by year end. This vehicle is still in its concept stages and will be showcased as such, at this week's Geneva Motor Show. Volvo had previously showcased a Concept Coupe at Frankfurt last year, followed by an XC Coupe at Detroit, this year.

All these put together, creates an interesting scenario. Official news claim that the XC90 is just months away from an official reveal, at the Paris Motor Show in October this year.
Interior features have been revealed and it has generated a massive frenzy in the Volvo fraternity. The interior is a preview to what future generation Volvos would look and feel like.

Hence, fan frenzy is not that unusual. The simple yet elegant design elements look precarious and we are awestruck by what the designed have for us. The interior is covered with plush leather upholstery, complete with exclusive stitches that lend a classy yet modern feel to the cabin. Switchgear has been dramatically reduced, while we see just a singular row of well placed knobs and buttons.

A tablet inspired touch screen device adorns the central console, controlling every major infotainment system in place. Additional vehicle and comfort settings can also be controlled through this. A digital instrument cluster looks good, while cabin lighting is smooth and nerve calming. As a result, night driving should look elegant.

We are however yet to receive confirmed reports of this being carried forward on the actual production variant, although we are quite impressed with what the Concept has on offer. Everything is within reach and easy to operate. Hence, practicality is definitely on the top of Volvo's charts. Standard navigation technology is in place, along with a host of other technical innovations such as climate control, media and telephone.

Volvo has introduced standard touch screen features such as hand movement gestures, e.g. pinching and swiping. The software has been developed in house and provides a host of options for increased functionality. Designing a touch screen device and software support for a cell phone or tablet is very different from doing the same with a car.

The operating system needs to tackle a greater amount of load as well as maintain user friendliness. We are quite skeptical about Volvo's design and will get back to you with detailed reports by mid 2014, by which we expect to get behind the wheel of the XC90. Not just Interior features, we are unaware of performance upgrades too.

A driver information system is placed near the steering wheel for better functionality and accessibility. Much thought has been put together before designing this vehicle and this is evident in the way the car feels. A three door structure is currently in place, while five door variants could be confirmed soon. We would really appreciate if Volvo designs future vehicles – V60, V70 etc - in line with their Concept XC90 estate.
