Volvo Preparing New Polestar Model, But They Have To Choose Between V40 And XC60
|   Sunday, August 31, 2014
The Polestar family from Volvo, currently composed only of the S60 and V60, will get a new member soon. Volvo representatives say this will be analyzed further, requiring a choice between V40 and XC60.

Whichever model they choose, the Goteborg manufacturer will equip it with a four-cylinder in line engine that will provide a high level of power, but the presence of a four-wheel drive, as its older brothers, is not yet specified. Until recently, rumors were announcing a V40 performance version as already approved by the management of Volvo, but the head of the brand's propulsion systems, Derek Crabb says that these rumors do not reflect the truth.

Crabb explains the current situation as a battle between the wishes of many markets that people at Volvo have to consider in order to choose the model that will see best selling figures.

While the problem is easily solved in the case of S60 and V60, the situation will be different in the case of V40 and XC60, because several major markets for Swedish manufacturer have opinions that collide head on and the marketing department must determine together with their counterparts from other Volvo Cars divisions the winning choice for the Polestar treatment.

"If you ask each of the individual markets which [Polestar] they want, some will say V40, some will say XC60, some will say S60. I don't think we can do that commercially, so we are trying to rationalize that." Crabb said.

The turbocharged six-cylinder in line unit of the S60 and V60 Polestar will be replaced in two years with a four cylinder engine, explains Derek Crabb. Fortunately for fans of the Swedish performance model power will not be reduced, the four-cylinder unit providing about 350 - 360 hp, because customers would not like to buy a less powerful car after they have had a S60 / V60 Polestar explains the head of the Swedish brand engines, owned by Geely.

"A customer buying a 329 hp six-cylinder car today isn't going to go down (in power) when he buys a four-cylinder. So there is going to be a high-performance Polestar (four-cylinder) engine." Crabb stated.

The six speed automatic gearbox has a new paddle shift system that alongside the Polestar-developed Haldex four-wheel drive system makes the car go from 0 to 100 km / h in just 4.9 seconds and has a limited top speed of 250 km / h (155 mph).

The new Volvo S60 and V60 Polestar have a thoroughly developed chassis with high performance dampers and brake plus four-wheel drive and make 350 hp from a turbo charged 6-cylinder engine.

The new Volvo S60 and V60 Polestar are set for sale on 4 continents across the globe in 2014. A total of 750 S60 and V60 Polestar models will be produced this year, heading to clients in Canada, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, Japan, United Kingdom and USA.
