Volvo plans on showcasing the V60 plug in hybrid
|   Friday, January 11, 2013
Volvo has been working on the hybrid section for quite some time now and this has culminated to the formation of the Volvo V60 plug in hybrid. Volvo has put in close to £280 Million in developing the hybrid technology and the world's first diesel hybrid vehicle has been developed by the Swedish firm. Volvo plans on introducing this technology to many V60 models and an estate and saloon are set to be the upcoming models.

However, Volvo plans on showcasing the V60 diesel hybrid plug in sedan at the Chicago Auto Show.
The fuel efficiency of V60 hybrid is a whopping 155.2 MPG while the CO2 emission is limited at 48.2 g/km. Volvo aims at making a performance oriented vehicle that can transport people comfortably while being fuel efficient and environment friendly. These are big plans and Volvo is working tirelessly to achieve its goals.

The four wheel drive estate travels 0 – 60 MPH in less than 5.8 seconds, sporting a top speed of 142 MPH and the twin engines work well and coordinate according to the need of the situation to maximize output. The Volvo V60 estate can be either front wheel drive, rear wheel drive or four wheel drive according to the need of the driver.

Volvo has installed this new technology and this makes life better for people at the wheel as the power can be distributed according to the need of the situation. The battery pack can take the V60 to a top speed of 77 MPH and according to the engineers from Volvo the vehicle can even drift solely on the battery powered motor.

Basically the vehicle is a hybrid and it functions like one too. The interior features a lot of dials, all indicating a certain level of essential equipment temperature etc. However, it is requested that you do not push the electric motor on this vehicle too much as there is a chance of an electrical fire breaking out that could result in a catastrophe. The V60 can run purely on electrical support for up to 31 miles.

The electric drive is essential for city driving and driving at slow speeds is quite reputable in this machine. There is a slave button that limits the engine's thrust and torque production, hence saving essential juice to be used later. There is a power switch that increases torque production by a great margin. This is the switch that performance lovers will savor and once pressed, the electric motor whips up a massive 148 BHP instantly.

This depletes charge by a great percentage and is hence not recommended. However, if you are a performance freak, there are high chances that you will not heed this request. The Volvo V60 diesel plug in hybrid is a great car and Volvo has designed this car perfectly. The car provides great performance and is also quite efficient as well as comfortable for long journeys. The final review of this vehicle is awaited post its launch at the Chicago Auto Show 2013.
