Volvo Plans on Scrapping the C30 Post 2013
|   Friday, June 14, 2013
Volvo confirms that the celebrated C30 will be scrapped later this year, following a life span of a measly seven years. The C30 was first showcased back in 2001 as the Volvo SCC Concept at the Detroit Motor Show and the final production model was showcased back in 2002. The production ready version was however revealed at the Paris Motor Show in 2006. The C30 unlike them other saloon and hatchback designs from Volvo was instantly considered to be a hit and people started hailing this vehicle as the base for the next generation vehicles from Volvo.

However, when the C30 was finally showcased, the vehicle looked different than the originally showcased SCC Concept. It was the most artistically and aerodynamically designed Volvo since the 480 Coupe and people started considering it as its successor. Volvo aimed the C30 at the up market segment and this was a very niche product although it failed to impress people as a practical ride. Some of the latest competitors that the C30 would face include The Renault Megane, Vauxhall Astra GTC and the Volkswagen Scirocco.

In fact, the C30 went on to support a variety of differences, ranging from a frugal 2.5 liter petrol engine apart from a turbo charged 2.5 liter diesel engine. Both engine options have been lifted off the Mk2 Ford Focus ST. The C30 faced a minor face lift back in 2010 when ownership rights were sold by Ford to Chinese car makers Geely Automobile. The box like structure of the C30 was finally replaced by smoother edges and this brought about a new direction to the way vehicles at Volvo were designed.

Some of the advanced features on the C30 include start stop and an SMS technology which makes communication on the go, easy. The C30 Polestar Concept was a hot favorite pick back in 2010 and this vehicle featured a 2.5 liter T5 petrol engine lifted off previous models. The C30 was capable of accelerating from 0 – 60 MPH within 4.6 seconds and the new aggressively designed exterior distinguished this vehicle from its other variants. However, the recent low sales recorded by the C30 prompted the officials to scrape post 2013.

A new vehicle is expected to replace the C30 although no official confirmation has come in for the officials. The C30 has a list of race titles to its name as well and it was a favorite at the World Touring Car Championship back in 2009. This vehicle however needed an adrenaline pumping motor which Volvo never considered installing in the vehicle as it would diminish the basic concept of vehicles from Volvo – practicality, fuel efficiency and daily use.

However, the C30 has evolved through the ages and modifications include not just internal but also external. The designing trend of the company was altered owing to the new design of the C30 and that was a very important phase, Volvo had undergone. In other words, the C30 has seen the best and the worst phases Volvo have gone through.
