Volvo introduces a new 3 cylinder engine range in the market
|   Monday, September 01, 2014
Latest reports confirm that Volvo has finally confirmed of a brand new series of 3 cylinder engines and it is going to be inducted in to production sometime later in this decade. It was quite anticipated because of the previous declaration by Volvo which stated that its current 4 cylinder version of engine which belong to the Drive E genre will be started to roll out by the end of year 2016.

These 3 cylinder engines are going in for a capacity of about 1.
LITERS and are going to be put in this genre of Volvo range with those belonging to the S 60 series or to the V 60 family. Even mid-level SUVs such as XC models are also going in to pitch for this particular range of engines.

Volvo's introduction of these series of 1.5L 3 cylinder engines will probably make its way for an assimilation of various drive train specs and is going to be served as a key component in this whole process. This complete idea will be validated when things start rolling in early time of next decade or so.

Derek Crabb, the man behind all this, was quoted saying that when these engines will hit the mainstream and roll-outs have finally been confirmed, then this overall purpose of a 3 engine petrol variant for Volvo will soon fall in place. His stance on the actual number of variants was unclear though.

What could be understood from his quote was that this line up for 3 cylinder engines would not turn out just as impeccable as was the case with those previous 2.0 LITER engines of Volvo. Therefore, it is still unclear about those total number of variants which will be available for this particular engine type in markets for Volvo.

Power train are also being considered and by altering this drive train specifications, it will surely have an effect on power train options. A key role play can be anticipated between these two attributes of a particular engine system. Average emissions of CO2 will also come in to consideration as stated by corporate emission regime in near future.

Electrification may be a solution for these average Co2 emission standards and for this particular reason, Volvo can try for a 3 cylinder engine. In near future, it can very well be said that electrification will surely be a more commercially viable method and these 3 cylinder engine is basically a step towards future.

As far as variants of this new engine can be predicted, then all of Volvo's engines have both petrol and diesel variants with entry level, low, medium and high power output options. So, similar anticipations can easily be made. Single or twin turbo engine specs can also be considered, along with a hybrid quality version.

A corporate drive train can very well make use of this hybrid quality and taking in to account all those power upgrades for Drive E family, it can take either way. Much mystery revolves around these new announced engines.
