Volvo Could Design a new Hybrid Super Mini
|   Monday, May 06, 2013
Volvo is willing to design and develop a super mini if it finds a partner ready to share the platform. Volvo is interested in designing an electric or hybrid super mini and is on the lookout for prospective investors. The rise in sales within the B Segment is the major reason behind the Volvo thinking of such an opening, although the firm is trying to downsize the hype surrounding the report.

Lex Kerssemakers, Head of Product Planning Volvo claims that the firm is not officially looking for designing such a vehicle although Volvo's interest in this field is evident.
Lex commanded that even if Volvo confirms such a vehicle, it needs assurance from a partner in complete support regarding the hybrid platform for the build. It is just a discussion at the moment and no final decision has been taken as of yet.

Part or platform sharing is the major trend this season among most big and small players in the automotive sector as it saves time and money as well as helps in diversifying. Volvo plans on doing the same. Therefore, as long as such reports are not filed, no final commitments can be made regarding the super mini. Volvo is not willing to make the complete investment in a new platform at the moment, although a partnership is not being ruled out immediately.

Volvo also plans on doubling sales of the V60 Hybrid Plug in vehicle by early next year and this should increase the overall sales percentage of the company by 2016. Volvo expects to sell close to 5000 vehicles in Europe by next year and the vehicles have been priced according to the competition in the European market.

The European car market has always been a cliché market when it comes to vehicle sales and Volvo is well aware of the way the market works. Hybrid vehicles are mostly in demand in certain sectors of the European market such as Holland and hence the sales figure is expected to bounce higher within the next few years. Volvo plans on cashing in on the occasion and hence the necessary arrangements are being made.

The current strategy at Volvo is to enhance sales while developing technology at the same time. Volvo's plans for the next year include revealing the refreshed version of the XC90. Customers are aware of the market hype and new technology is always welcome when it comes to fuel efficiency. Volvo is a trusted name in most parts of Europe and the company is making efforts to keep things in the positive.

The Volvo XC 90 features a powerful four cylindered engine coupled with a hybrid system to enhance fuel efficiency. Volvo claims that the engine is not the primary concern for the firm and their vehicles are not designed around the engine. Therefore, every aspect of the vehicle needs to be sorted out before the model is sent for production. This as a result means that performance is not the primary criteria unlike major manufacturers such as BMW.
