The new VW Budd-e will be the minibus of XXI century - Volkswagen Budd-e Concept reveals new MEB platform for future electric vehicles
To confront the scandal of falsifying emissions, those from Volkswagen will be friends with future owners and what is most friendly than the modern reproduction of the legendary Volkswagen T1 / Microbus? Even the name was made friendly - BUDD-e, which in English can be formulated as "buddy".

The Volkswagen BUDD-e Concept was unveiled at the CES exhibition (Consumer Electronics Show 2016).
Being a T1 / Microbus of the XXI century the new BUDD-e comes with a modern design combined with ideas that consecrated the original and innovative technologies. First of all, the concept presents the new electrical platform, Modular Electric Drive Kit (MEB), which will be the basis for future electric vehicle of the Group.

This platform can be equipped with an electric motor or two, as in the case of Budd-e. The electric motor on the front axle develops 100 kW (134 hp) and 200 Nm of torque and the one on the rear axle 125 kW (168 hp) and torque of 290 Nm for a total of 225 kW (302 hp ).

The battery pack installed in the floor has a capacity of 92.4 kW / h and offers a range of 533 km with one charge. Acceleration from 0 to 60 mph (96 km / h) takes just 6.9 seconds and the top speed of Budd-e is limited to 180 km / h. With the MEB electric platform Volkswagen officials want to "throw away" all propulsion units that use fossil fuels, thus demonstrating its intention to go the way of electrification.

With typical sizes for the medium segment (length of 4,597 mm, width of 1,940 mm and a height of 1,835 mm), the VW Budd-e Concept is conveniently positioned at the border between Touran and Multivan T6. The design combines the retro elements imposed by Buli's predecessor reputation with the futuristic styling cues like lights full oversized LED, video cameras having the role of mirrors, solar panels integrated into the roof or the multipurpose drawer DrobBox, cleverly hidden behind the back bumper.

The interior is an example of minimalism. On the dashboard only a curved touch screen and of course a steering wheel are grafted. The screen is divided into three distinct areas dedicated to the navigation, multimedia functions, or the onboard instruments. The passengers will enjoy the wonders of technology too, another touch screen being integrated into the rear door on the driver's side. The bench seat is not the conventional one. In its place we find a sofa with a unique design.
As expected from such a concept, the BUDD-e is counting on permanent Internet connection and three display that can be controlled by gestures, touch or voice commands, which virtually eliminates the need for traditional buttons.

In addition, VW has implemented various intelligent systems, such as enabling an automatic opening rear door when a video camera detects that the passenger intends to get up from the chair. Also, the doors open automatically before you get to the car after passing a laser marking available on concept.
According to Volkswagen, such a concept could reach series production in 2019.
