Volkswagen Working on Next generation VR6 Drive Train
|   Sunday, September 29, 2013
Volkswagen is currently working on its latest version of a direct fuel injected engine block, sources have revealed. This petrol engine is being developed from an old engine block which will be replacing the VR6 petrol block, which was recently discarded. The project is currently being overseen by Fritz Eichler, Volkswagen's Head of Engines and former Head of AMG. The new engine block measures 3.0 liters with a 15 degrees cylinder bank angle.

Forced induction technology has been added to this system while Volkswagen is hinting towards a twin turbo setup for it.
An engine setup was previewed in the Volkswagen GTI concept previously while the new engine setup produces 496 BHP along with 413 ft lb of torque. Production version of the car is expected to be less powerful although displacement figures should be close to 340 BHP and 450 BHP respectively, for standard and performance edition vehicles.

Volkswagen plans on using its VR6 technology in a range of new vehicles in its lineup while the range includes the Passat, CrossBlue and Passat CC. Even though the CrossBlue is in its concept stages, it has the potential to make it through to production. A drive test was recently conducted on this car and this proved the potential of this VR6 drive train.

Turbo chargers are likely to be installed while overall power displacement figures are yet to be finalized. Even though people were expecting a tamed version of a 3.0 liter petrol engine, officials revealed a monstrous drive train. This has raised a few eyebrows nonetheless although experts believe that this is about to change once this car is available across showrooms.

This news is too extreme for the moment as Volkswagen is generally known for its low displacement, family vehicles. However, the German carmakers want to evolve out this image. Hence, people should get accustomed to this current line of makeover quite soon. Although performance tests could not be conducted as of date, final work on a proto type is on. This means that we should get details regarding the drive train specifications quite soon.

Volkswagen is currently working on its handling aspects while ride height has been lowered. This means better aerodynamics till a level, followed by precision handling. Interior comfort should be high considering Volkswagen's recent wish to compete in the luxury segment. The CrossBlue is a current favorite to sport this engine as this would mean a completely new car with a revised power train making its foray into the market.

This calls for advanced hype from customers while we are guaranteed of a commercial success. Marketing is not actually necessary on this car as the product is worth the cash. Even though pricing has not been finalized we can guess that it will not be out of reach as this is Volkswagen's specialty. Standard range of safety measures on the CrossBlue is expected although we have already discussed the topic before as this article is strictly about the VR6 and the likely candidates to sport this engine block.
