Volkswagen Up! Could Be Offered In 100 HP Turbocharged Version
|   Tuesday, January 27, 2015
The Volkswagen GT Up! Is a concept shown at Frankfurt in 2011, which foreshadowed a sports version of the German model, and could receive a series variant on the Brazilian market, media in this country headlines.

According to the Car.blog.br, the model will receive the Polo's facelift 1.0 TSI motorization, which will be manufactured at the Volkswagen plant in Sao Paolo. In the case of the Brazilian market, the model will be offered only in a flex-fuel version, supporting ethanol supplying and will deliver the 95 hp or 115 hp to the front wheels through a five-speed manual transmission.
For now, it is not clear whether the model will be offered in this variant on the European market.
Perhaps the German giant will surprise us at the Geneva Motor Show. We never know, but we can hope.

The release of the Volkswagen Up! version with more than 100 hp on the European market is uncertain, since the model does not get the expected sales by the German concern. It is widely recognized that those from Volkswagen are known for their pragmatism when it comes to the links between supply and demand.

In other words, Volkswagen is not expected to provide a sports version of a model that does not have the expected sales results. The Germans could continue expanding the offer for the models from B, C and D segment, which are successfully marketed in Europe, and reduce its presence in the A segment. Moreover, this segment has been abandoned many years ago, when they removed the Lupo model from production. However, returning to this segment was done with the release of Up! /Citigo /Mii triplets four years ago.

Compared with the standard Up!, the GT Concept is characterized by a redesigned front bar with a larger grille and honeycomb pattern. The back has a set of dual exhausts, quietly integrated into the redesigned bumper. The side sills also have a sporty look and the Up! GT has a set of 17-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, the sporty version of the Up ! received the GTI trim. The other interior elements keep their shape and characteristics, promising to provide a purchase price as low as possible and with a pure driving experience, without excessive technology. Volkswagen suggested an ideological link between the Up! GT Concept and the first generation of the Golf GTI. The two models have similar sizes and a 100 hp version of the Up ! could provide comparable dynamic performance.

Back to the real world, the Volkswagen GT Up! Turbo model, as its full name is, will be sold from May 2015 exclusively on the Brazilian market. However, many specialists are not quite sure if Volkswagen will really invest in this project. Furthermore, it should be noted the South American standards on emissions are quite different from Euro 6.

Another important thing to consider is that because these cars will not comply with European safety standards, the import of the Volkswagen GT Up! Turbo model from Brazil is not considered, even if the project will get a green light.
