Volkswagen Unveils the Cheapest Automatic Golf
|   Monday, June 03, 2013
The cheapest automatic transmission enabled version of the Volkswagen Golf has finally made it to the United Kingdom and this proves to be a potential catch for all buyers. The Volkswagen Golf S 1.2 TSI DSG is powered by a 1.2 liter TSI DSG engine which displaces 104 BHP along with 129 ft lbs of torque which qualifies for a tax reduction of £30 while the company claims this vehicle is capable of returning 50 MPG.

Combining these aspects with the fact that this vehicle is a Volkswagen Golf, it would be safe to say that this is a bargain.
The chief qualities of a Golf Mk7 are its refinement, comfort, usability and integrity and all these factors combine together with the fact that this is a petrol model, makes things sweeter. However, this vehicle is a champion although its performance is not the primary reason for its success.

This is a five door family transporting vehicle and the 104 BHP displaced might just not be sufficient for the performance lovers. All in all however this vehicle scores and scores high. The seven speed Volkswagen automated transmission system is a breeze to drive and at everyday speeds, this calls for a very comfortable ride. However, if you are in a hurry you will find it a bit irritating.

Even when the pedal is floored, the sense of urgency is lacking in this vehicle. With a minimum amount of fuss, max power is obtained at 1550 RPM. The only advantage of this is the passengers won't feel the gear changing. The Volkswagen Golf makes for a decent urban car which should be limited to the perimeter of the city for the best ride.

However, if you plan on taking this vehicle for a cruise around the highway you are bound to be disappointed. The handling is shoddy and peak torque is missing at all points. Volkswagen claims a top speed of 119 MPH which points a figure at the reasons which make this vehicle shoddy. The turbo charger adds a lot of grunt to the engine and without it the car would barely move after 80 MPH.

However, comfort and refinement is high. The suspension is low which ensures that the cabin remains calm at most times while enhancing the handling. The interior is very calm and noise reduction measures seem to have been fairly well implemented. On a mixed commute, the vehicle is capable of returning 45 MPG and Volkswagen is offering this vehicle in both petrol and diesel options.

Priced at £19,575, this vehicle is complete value for money even though it may seem to be for the family crowd. If you need to get from point A to point B within the city, there might just not be any better vehicle for the job than the Golf S 1.2 TSI DSG. However, beyond that point this vehicle loses its objective. Therefore, even though Volkswagen has done a great job with this vehicle, it is far from being perfect.
