Volkswagen to launch a limited edition Golf GTI in 2014
|   Friday, September 28, 2012
Spy pictures of the recent carbon fibered 2014 Volkswagen Golf GTI has been doing the rounds in Germany and people believe it is a special edition model of the Golf. The carbon GTI is a tribute to the original Golf GTI and the total vehicle is set to be a light weight version of the original GTI.

The new model sports light weight aluminum parts, carbon fiver shafts, and fiber glass body frame and wind shield to keep weight to a bare minimum.
The hi tech carbon fiber manages to shave off close to 200 kg from the previous Golf GTI enabling the present model to be weighed close to 1125 kg.

Volkswagen has always been known for designing innovative machines and the first generation GTI weighed just over 810 kg. The car will be powered by the old 2.2 liter 222 BHP producing engine that is lifted directly off the Mk 7 Golf GTI and this signifies a considerable drop in the acceleration time needed by the car to reach 60 mph from 0.

The car will not be produced in large numbers as this is a limited edition and Volkswagen plans to launch this vehicle by 2014. Apart from this vehicle, Volkswagen also has plans to launch another model in 2014 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the company's formation.

Two engineering aspects have made the production of this carbon fiber vehicle possible and they are the presence of two carbon fiber layers over a thin iron plate which enables the roof to be welded to the body in the production line vehicle. The alloyed bulkhead windscreen which is present at the rear, complete the rear design of the vehicle.

The parts have been welded and riveted to bring stability to the vehicle and this does not have any adverse effects on either the aerodynamics or handling, as they vehicle consists mostly of carbon fiber parts.
The drive train features on the vehicle have also been enhanced. The engine is composed of a light weight material which the company is unwilling to disclose. This is set to reduce the weight of the car by a considerable margin.

Driving the vehicle is an inexpressible pleasure and the high speed, smooth acceleration, low weight and stability control make the vehicle perfect for racing. Although Golf GTI is set to be a street legal car, it is set to pack in enough punch to challenge most other vehicles in higher price brackets.
Volkswagen has upgraded the suspension on the vehicle and the new Golf GTI is a much smoother vehicle. The car is perfect for taking swift corners and the braking ability of the vehicle has to be seen to be believed. The Brembo disk calipers make slowing down an easy task and the vehicle features a distance of just 6 meters while braking from speeds close to 100 mph.

Bookings for the vehicle have begun and if you are interested in buying the limited edition, you need to place an order quickly before the company runs out of vehicles.
