Volkswagen plans to unveil the new Beetle Cabriolet at the Los Angeles Motor Show
|   Saturday, October 06, 2012
The 2013 Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet will be showcased at the Los Angeles Motor Show 2012 which is set to premiere in November. The Cabriolet features a soft roof and modifies the hard top version of the iconic car from Volkswagen.

The rear has been remodeled and the flat wider tires look good on the Beetle. Volkswagen is set to offer four distinct engine options on the Beetle along with a host of drive train options and these are a 1.
liter petrol powered TSI engine with Blue Motion technology producing 158 BHP apart from a 1.4 liter petrol powered TSI engine producing 197 BHP.

A 2.0 liter TSI petrol variant of the engine completes the petrol segment vehicles and the range of diesel engines includes a 103 BHP producing 1.6 liter TDI engine with or without Blue Motion, depending on the customer's preference.

Lastly a 2.0 liter TDI diesel engine is also available, producing 138 BHP. The petrol variants produce more power while being more eco conscious and hence enjoy special tax benefits over the diesel variants which are more fuel efficient.

The Beetle cabriolet will feature the Volkswagen multilink rear and front suspension and Volkswagen has confirmed these claims. This technology will however feature only on the high end model of the Beetle cabriolet which sports a 2.0 liter TDI and TSI engine.

The Beetle cabriolet will be produced along with the hatch back at Volkswagen's plant at Puebla, Mexico and the vehicle shares its platform with the Jetta, which has in turn been developed on Volkswagen's Mk 7 platform.

The Beetle cabriolet will have an installed roll over protection system for enhanced safety and the vehicle has a few built in safety and comfort features which make this vehicle stand out in a range of high end cabriolets.

The vehicle has a lot of protective air bags which are designed to protect the different parts of a human body in case of an accident and special air bags for the arms, legs, neck etc are present to cushion the driver and the passenger in case of a fall.

Volkswagen claims that the roll over protection system will kick in within milliseconds of an accident and hence reduce as much damage as practically possible on a cabriolet. The windshield has been designed in a way which will cause the least damage to the eyes and head of the passenger and the driver in case of an accident.

The final price of the cabriolet has not been declared as of yet. However, it is estimated to be close to 2500 Pounds to 3000 Pounds more than the Beetle hatch back. The details and technical specifications will be revealed post the Los Angeles Motor Show 2012 and the hype is being generated around the launch.

Volkswagen is confident of the cabriolet doing well and the Beetle fans are already cheering at the prospect of a new model to the already famous model. The deliveries are expected to begin fall 2014 and initial inquiries have already begun.
