Volkswagen launches the next generation Beetle
|   Wednesday, December 05, 2012
The 2013 Volkswagen Beetle may not be as genuine as it was a few decades back, owing to strong competition from Mini. However, with the launch of the all new Beetle, Volkswagen seems to have gone a little bit ahead of the generation, so much so that Chief Designer Klaus Bischoff has described this vehicle to be the halo model for the next generation of the Golf.

The best feature about this Beetle is that is not only looks great for the exterior, it feels great from inside too.
The vehicle is however not as refined as one would expect from a Beetle, nonetheless it is still a trademark product on the road. Although the Cabrio design on this vehicle may not be the best, aerodynamically, it has the look good factor which attracts the buyers.

The new Beetle has 17 inch sports alloyed rims with high interior trim level detailing with electronic controls that enhance the overall driving experience. However the handling is a major problem with the Beetle and Volkswagen has done nothing to improve it since the last generation. However if you expect a high performance car with superb refinement, you will be disappointed.

The 2.0 liter engine displaces 138 BHP and provides decent performance in terms of a top speed of 120 MPH and fuel efficiency of 50.4 MPG. Along with a sic speed manual transmission system, the Beetle is a decent performer and for a price tag of 24,635 Pounds, it is total value for money. However, Volkswagen has taken special care of the interior of this vehicle and the overall driving ambience is great. The materials used on the vehicle are standard and a generally cheap plastic finish is absent.

The overall finishing is without question one of the finest and Volkswagen never compromises on either safety or luxury, within the budget of course. The Beetle Cabrio is a practical choice over the standard Beetle and it can get the up in 11 seconds flat and down in 9.5 seconds within the range of 31 MPH. The boot space has been increased by 10 liters and this is better for travelling with the family.

With an increased leg space, the Beetle is one of the largest vehicles in class and has more than 255 liters of boot space overall. Volkswagen has developed the Beetle exclusively for the common man and if you are looking forward to freeway trips this could be the perfect buy for you. With an overall weight of 1505 kg, the four cylindered, turbo charged 1988 cc engine provides optimum performance and this makes the Beetle one of the most desirable vehicles on road.

Overall, the latest generation Beetle fullfils all the criteria for a perfect touring vehicle and people looking forward to buying the Beetle will be in for a treat. The Beetle is quite environment friendly considering the fact that it is a diesel and it emits just 145 g/km of CO2. The next generation Volkswagen Golf is a vehicle to look forward to considering the fact that it will be based on the Beetle.
