Volkswagen Keen on Launching Seven New Models of the Golf by Year End
|   Wednesday, February 13, 2013
Volkswagen has announced its plans to launch seven new models of the Golf within the next 12 months. The range topping version is expected to displace 286 BHP and will be known as the Golf R Version. The Golf GTI and the GTD will be the other sports oriented vehicles in the lineup. Electronic additions to the range include the four wheel drive 4Motion along with the fuel saving Blue Motion Technology. An electronic variant - known as the e Golf – is also expected to be unveiled during the same period.

The Golf Estate will be the seventh vehicle in the Golf lineup while the Golf R is expected to be the best in class. The vehicle is closely related to the Audi S3 and will also be the most powerful in the Golf series till date. The tuned 2.0 liter TSI is expected to displace 286 BHP along with 280 ft lb of torque and the engine is mated to a six speed automatic transmission system.

0 – 60 MPH is achievable in less than 5.0 seconds while the Golf R is expected to reach a top speed of 150 MPH. The exhaust note of the Golf has been tuned to the optimum level and it produces a deep bass engine growl.

The all wheel drive technology is another major addition to the Golf R and the vehicle sports an additional Haldex 5 system. Volkswagen claims that this vehicle will feature sportier handling as well as attract a quick response from the transmission with quicker acceleration. Power transmission between the front and rear axles is also expected to be better while an additional pair of electronic differentials will be available on the Golf R.

The chassis and bodywork of the Golf R are also expected to be made light weight and the maximum weight expected from the Golf R is 1200 kg. Alloyed rims, major components and brake are also scheduled to be installed and the Golf R, despite its added performance, could return 40.4 MPG on the road. CO2 emission is also below the 165 g/km range and that is decent considering the power generation.

The new batch of vehicles sporting the Golf tag could be available in showrooms fall January 2014 and the vehicles could be showcased at the Frankfurt Motor Show, set to commence in September 2013. Volkswagen is keen on introducing energy efficient vehicles and the e Golf is also on the cards. Though Volkswagen has not revealed much of its plans, the electric version is also expected to hit showrooms fall 2014.

Volkswagen focuses on value for money services to attract customers and there is no better vehicle than the Golf series to attract customers. The hype in the market is centered round the Golf R and the other vehicles seem to be overshadowed by it at the moment. However, Volkswagen has a lot on its cards and the new vehicles could be just as popular as the Golf R once they launch. However, only a road test will determine the future of the new vehicles.
