Volkswagen Jetta CC Closer To Life After Release Of Midsize Coupe Concept
|   Monday, April 28, 2014
Exhibited at the Beijing Auto Show, the new Volkswagen Midsize Coupe Concept has given rise to several speculations regarding its chances to reach the market in a series version. According to Automotive News, there are real opportunities to see a materialization of the Jetta model under the form of new bodywork variants.

This concept, the Volkswagen NMC - New Mid-sized Coupe –confirms the manufacturer's plans for a sedan to challenge the Mercedes-Benz CLA.
Volkswagen design boss Klaus Bischoff likes to think of the NMC as an "avant-garde protagonist for a new compact sedan class."

The model will be based on the new compact sedan generation and will propose to the public a coupe version approach, like the Volkswagen Passat CC's current style. A compact four-door coupe, the Jetta CC will be based on the same modular platform MQB of the Volkswagen Group and will be expected on the market around 2016.

The Midsize Coupe concept was designed under the supervision of Klaus Bischop, head of design for the brand in Wolfsburg, and is shorter than a Jetta, but wider than a Passat. The propulsion system sees a turbocharged direct injection gasoline engine displacing 2.0 liters and producing 220 horsepower, capable of delivering a sprint from 0 to 100 km / h in just 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 245 km / h. The gearbox is a DSG dual-clutch, and has 7 steps. Basically, the engine is pretty much the same 4 cylinder unit powering the 7th generation Golf GTI. So, as far as power goes, that chapter is amply covered.

Measuring 4,597 mm in length, 1,838 mm in width and 1,422 mm in height, the NMC stands 48 mm shorter, 58 mm wider and 58 mm lower than the current Jetta. The production version is also expected to share its 2,650 mm wheelbase. For comparison purposes, the CLA stands 4,630 mm in length, 1,777 mm in width and 1,432 mm in height, with a 2,699 mm wheelbase.

The series version of the Midsize Coupe concept will take over many of the design elements found on the prototype, including the roof line plunger, frameless windows and the LED optical blocks. The production model will be provided by the Puebla plant in Mexico, where current generation also originates. On the list of potential manufacturing plants, there is also a location in China, which is one of the reasons why the concept was presented at the Motor Show in Beijing.

To improve the presentation of the concept showcased in Beijing, Volkswagen's design team has equipped the car with impressive 20 inch wheels shod with 245 / 40 profile rubber. Volkswagen claims that the NMC offers similar levels of inside accommodations compared to the Jetta model. Thus, the interior has plenty of space for five adults. Also, the Volkswagen officials argue that the model offers 500 liters of luggage compartment, which is just 10 liters less than that offered by its more conventional four-door brother.
