Volkswagen Golf: Wins the award comprehensively with 414 votes
|   Monday, March 11, 2013
The Volkswagen golf was named the European car of the year. The car won the award by a greater margin. In total the Volkswagen got 414 votes compared to the second placed Toyota GT86 and the Subaru BRZ which were in the runners up place for the second spot with only 202 votes. The Volvo V40 was placed in third place and the Ford B Max was placed in the 4th place. The Mercedes-A class was ranked 5th and these cars were followed by some other good cars like the Hyundai i30, Renault Clio and the Peugeot 208.

The development head and the chief designer of Volkswagen Ulrich Hackenberg and Walter de Silva respectively came up to take the award on behalf of the company. The Volkswagen Golf was praised immensely by the judges for tremendous performance, greater comfort levels, the undoubted safety levels, tremendous fuel efficiency and the unique dynamics of the award winning car.

The judges of the motor show and the head judge Steve Cropley who is also the editor of the Auto car suggested that the French cars were very competing in the market and constantly kept stealing each other's vote to win the competition. The cars were great and everyone had the potential to win the award but the Golf turned out to be much superior to the others in four different classes and won the award convincingly.

On the eve of the motor show it was announced that the Golf had won the award. This is not the first time that the Golf has won the award. The Volkswagen golf had won the award earlier as well in 1992. This is the second time the award has been won. The Golf is only the second car in the history to win the award twice. Before the Golf the Renault Clio had won the award twice.

The Geneva motor show was a grand success and the show brought forward some great cars. It was like old days when the best cars in the world ruled the roads. The speed monsters were unleashed. There was a lot of healthy competition among the producers to win the award but ultimately the award was won by the Volkswagen golf. The results of the competition were as follows:

Volkswagen Golf, Toyota GT86/Subaru BRZ, Volvo V40, Ford B-Max, Mercedes A-class, Renault Clio, Peugeot 208, Hyundai i30.
In order of the position in the competition these were the cars that made the most impact. As you can see that the Volkswagen Golf has won the competition by a huge margin. There is no one close to beating the car. Though the car has won the award it is only a matter of time before the car proves its actual worth. If the car fails to live up to the billing then there is always a substitute ready in a competitive market like this.
