Volkswagen Golf Variant GTD - A 184-Horsepower Sporty Diesel Version
|   Tuesday, February 17, 2015
Car maker Volkswagen is preparing for the Geneva Motor Show 2015 which will debut on March 5th, where the Germans will showcase several models. The latest addition is the wagon version of the Golf GTD.

The new Golf GTD Variant will be a diesel version of the station wagon existing so far only by the initials GTI, petrol powered.
While France tries to deny diesel engines because of the pollutant emissions produced by them, the Germans see the automotive world in different colors.

Those of Volkswagen know that the current Golf recipe is pleasing to the public and constantly reinvents it in various body forms. More specifically, they see it as a world of Golf, with as many body types, as well as more versions of motorization. Next on the list is the Golf GTD Variant, which is inspired by the GTD Golf hatchback, and is preparing to launch as an alternative with a larger storage space for those who want more.

The European market is just teeming with power wagon models: the large ones, like the Audi RS6 Avant and Jaguar XFR-S Sportbrake, but also small ones, such as the new Mercedes CLA45 AMG Shooting Brake, Skoda Octavia RS and Seat Leon Cupra ST. On this market, the Volkswagen Group just has to say something.

The new Volkswagen Golf Variant GTD has the same engine as the hatchback: the TDI displacing 2.0 liters with four cylinders is capable of delivering 184 horsepower and 380 Nm of torque, available on a generous rev range between 1750 rpm and 3250 rpm.

With this package under the hood, the Golf Variant GTD can accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in just 7.9 seconds, 0.4 seconds slower than the hatchback. What is more important, even if we are talking about a sport version, the announced fuel consumption is only 4.4 liters / 100 kilometers.
The transmission is expected to be in two versions: six speed manual or double clutch automatic six speed.

From the aesthetic point of view, GTD version differentiates itself with the help of new spoilers, a distinctive radiator grille, and front optical blocks on black background. The sport package is complemented by the 17-inch Curitiba rims, the black roof railing, chrome exhaust pipe, side skirts, and a suspension lowered by 15 mm.
Inside, the new Golf GTD Variant enjoys sports seats, lighting for the thresholds, black ceiling, Checkered Black decorative elements, aluminum inserts and gear shifter and steering wheel covered in leather.

The Sports and Design package offering driving mode selection, Nogaro 18-inch alloy wheels, red brake callipers and tinted windows, is available for only 965 extra euros. Optionally the Golf GTD Variant is available with 18-inch Nogaro alloy rims and seat covers in a choice of Alcantara or Vienna leather.

The new Volkswagen Golf Variant GTD will be shown at Geneva and will reach the market in Germany during the same month with a price tag of 32,000 euro.
