Volkswagen Golf R 400 Concept With 400 HP May See Production
|   Saturday, April 26, 2014
The Volkswagen Golf R 400 Concept, one of the exhibits presented by the Germans at the Auto Show in Beijing, could get a series version. The news comes from the Americans at Car & Driver, who had interviewed Heinz-Jakob Neusser, Head of Research and Development at Volkswagen. The release also celebrates 40 years since the launch of the first generation Golf.

The official has confirmed plans to launch the version with 400 hp of the Golf model, although he did not specify the date on which it will be available on the market.
In the concept version, the model presents itself with 400 hp and 450 Nm, made from a unit displacing 2.0 liters, which equips the GTI and R versions of the current Golf VII.

Heinz-Jakob Neusser says that the basic structure of the EA888 motorization remained unchanged. No elements were taken from the German group's other engines. More than that, the 2.0 liter engine and 400 hp, which will equip the respective version of the Golf, is also expected in the Audi range, explains another source quoted by the Americans from Car & Driver, the latter preferring not to reveal their identity.

Earlier this year, Audi announced it is working on a version with 375 hp and 500 Nm, of the same 2.0 turbo engine, from the VAG portfolio. The series version is a possibility for the future Audi S3. Just as then, the representatives from Wolfsburg are saying that the future of in-line five-cylinder turbo engine, which delivers 335 hp, is not in danger.

The concept shown in Beijing benefits from a six-speed DSG transmission coupled to a 4MOTION drive system. The model has a weight of 1420 kg and is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.9 seconds. The maximum speed of the Golf R 400 Concept is electronically limited at 280 km / h. For comparison, the Volkswagen Golf R, the most powerful version of the series currently offered by Golf, accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.9 seconds, and uses the six-speed DSG, providing 300 hp and 380 Nm.

In addition to changes made to increase propulsion power, the Golf R 400 benefits from changes to the bodywork and bumpers, the fenders are flared, has new rims, as well as a new interior that includes seating shaped like a shell taken from motorsports with integrated head restraints and seat belts.

The wings are deliberately reminiscent of the Golf G60 rally from 1988, and much of the concept is finished in the "Silver Flake" metallic color, in contrast with the glossy black roof and mirror housings finished in fiber carbon.

The "Lemon Yellow" accents from the outside are noted on the horizontal lines in the grid, which continue until the twin-xenon headlights, like the Golf R series, where we have chrome stripes. Inside the seams are all lemon-yellow colored.
