Volkswagen Golf GTD Manages to Impress the Sports Enthusiasts
|   Saturday, June 15, 2013
The Volkswagen Golf GTD maybe the most inspirational hatches back from the company which specializes in manufacturing operational hatchbacks. The Golf became the status symbol of the middle class youth, who got performance, value for money, exceptionally amazing exterior look as well as comfort for the price. The Golf GTI was the first to represent the class symbol, while packing in similar features as that of the BMW 1 Series and the Audi A3.

However, the engineering team at Volkswagen wanted to create something in excess as compared to a Golf GTI.
Power displacement has been increased from 168 BHP to a whopping 181 BHP while torque displacement has risen to 280 ft lbs. Acceleration from 0 – 60 MPH is possible well within 7.5 seconds while CO2 emission has been reduced to 109 g/km. The Golf GTD however features various exterior modifications ranging from bumper additions to a honeycomb filter design.

These minor aspects may seem quite small for the normal eye to grasp, although it does make massive differences to the ultimate value of the vehicle. The interior faces a cosmetic change while the quality of the parts has improved. This gives the Golf GTD a renewed feeling for the market. Additional trim has been used in the interior and this includes tartan cloth instrument cluster, seat covers and dashboard cover.

The gear level features the iconic golf ball design while the suspension has been stiffened out which enhances handling while increasing the comfort quotient of the ride. The instrument cluster is neatly spread while housing all the necessary components for the ride. The electric steering reduces under steer while power brakes make sure that the vehicle stops as fast as it accelerates.

The gear shift ratio is set up in a linear fashion which makes this vehicle easy to drive within the city perimeter as well as on freeways. When the accelerator is pushed to the ground, this vehicle showcases it true grit. Optional ACC dampers can be added to the Golf GTD on special request and this is the perfect cat if you want to travel cross country. Small, affordable, easy to drive, comfortable, cheap to run and amazingly sporty, the Volkswagen Golf GTD is the car to look out for while making a purchase in these trouble times.

Priced at £25,285, the Golf GTD is one of a kind vehicle although it is priced quite high up in the segment. Cruising economy is close to 50 MPG and if this is fine with you, there cannot be a better alternative than the Golf GTD. The Ford Focus ST is also in the same segment as the Golf GTD although it is cheaper than the GTD. However, the GTD is a high performance hatch back and if you want to enjoy your ride and enjoy the drive experience, the Volkswagen Golf GTD will do justice to the price tag. The quality of the parts and finish is also better than that of the Ford Focus ST.
