Volkswagen Boss Unveils its new XL Series Long before the Actual Date
|   Sunday, September 29, 2013
The PR team at Volkswagen was caught in a surprise this week when Ferdinand Piƫch, Head of Volkswagen Group, announced that Volkswagen planned on launching a futuristic sports car based on its XL1. A simple lecture at the Technical University of Vienna was converted into a launch program for Volkswagen's latest project. Volkswagen had carefully planned out this unveil for quite a few months. However, this is of no avail now the bean had been spilled.

News of an XL based sports car had been leaked a few weeks ago, although insiders assured world media that they were working on this project and a probable launch date was still far off. Heinz-Jakob Neusser, Head of Research and Development at Volkswagen will personally look into the technical modifications on the XL1, which is to receive a new plug in hybrid system.

This car draws power from a 27 BHP displacing electric motor along with two 47 BHP motors although Volkswagen plans on inserting something a bit more exciting on open roads. Volkswagen incidentally owns Italian Superbike manufacturer Ducati via Audi. If this doesn't ring a bell, this will clear all doubts.

Underneath the hood of the new XL1, will be a whirring electric hybrid engine, lifted directly off the Ducati's 1199 Panigale, the company's current flagship. This V twin engine lifted off a superbike should be sufficiently powerful for Volkswagen's XL1. This extremely capable and powerful engine displaces 195 BHP @ 10,750 RPM along with 98 ft lb of torque @ 9,000 RPM, with a redline capacity of 11,500 RPM.

Ducati's latest desmodromic valve system ensures high performance with ultra high performance at optimum speeds. One of the current drive train components will however be retained on its new drive train. It is the seven speed dual clutch PQ200 transmission system. Another vehicle to leave its mark based on this XL Series is the XL Sport. This vehicle will be devoid of any of the eco friendly technology in the XL1, hence generating more power while performing better.

Although Volkswagen is yet to reveal official data and technical figures revolving around both these cars, we expect Volkswagen to come up with completely functional, production ready proto types by mid 2015. This is unconfirmed reports from industry experts. Hence, we could not get any insider to corroborate this report. Ride height has been lowered and this enhances the aerodynamic approach of the car. At high speeds this car is expected to feature similar velocity as that of an arrow. Hence, high speed handling should be decent while cornering and track performance should also be a notch higher than the XL1.

Both these vehicles are however equally important and interesting while hype around this project has increased ever since this very public announcement. Even though these vehicles are yet to be officially unveiled, we know much about both these cars. We will be updating our readers about new details as they emerge. So stay tuned to this column to gain access to latest information regarding the XL Series.
