Volkswagen Beetle as it Evolved during the Past Seven Decades
|   Thursday, July 04, 2013
The first version of the Volkswagen Beetle made its official debut close to seven decades ago and has sold close to 22 Million units worldwide since. However, unlike the initial generation of the Beetle which was focused on the common middle segment of the market, the current generation Beetle is aimed at the higher strata of society. The Beetle now finds worthy opposition from the Citroen DS3 and the Mini.

The Beetle still maintains he body lines of its predecessor and this gives the vehicle a modern yet contemporary look.
The interior is filled with minor details and this further enhances the preciseness and cost of the vehicle. Volkswagen is currently offering 1.2 liter, 1.4 liter, 1.6 liter and 2.0 liter engine options on the Beetle while the diesel engine features the advanced Volkswagen Blue Motion Technology which enhances the efficiency of the engine.

The latest version of the Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet was showcased at the 2012 Los Angeles Motor Show although special edition versions have been launched previously. Fall 2013 Volkswagen was rumored to be ready for showcasing the Fender Special Edition Model of the Beetle although no such revelations have been made so far. Style wise there is no beating the Beetle and this vehicle has evolved since its rounded shape.

The modern Volkswagen Beetle is a muscular, mean looking vehicle with sharper edges and sleeker body frame. Advanced light weight space frame technology has been used to design the chassis and body panels of the Beetle. 16 inch rims have been provided by Volkswagen as standard on the Beetle even though optional 18 and 19 inch rims are also available.

Volkswagen is also offering customization options on the Beetle such as body colored interior upholstery and sports trim on the interior. The latest Beetle is based on the revolutionary Volkswagen Mk6 platform on which the latest Golf is also based. The suspension is quite stiff while the steering column is well adjusted to handle sharp bends at high speeds. The 1.4 liter petrol engine is currently the favorite of the lot due to the fact that it displaces the maximum amount of power and sufficient fuel efficiency.

Volkswagen is also offering either a DSG seven speed automatic transmission system on the Beetle along with an optional six speed manual. Volkswagen is a trusted name in the world of automobile and the Beetle has been around long enough for people to trust the car as it is. The Beetle is class personified and the makers plan on keeping it that way.

This as a result makes the Beetle one of the costliest cars on road and the premium segment and customization options further enhance the appeal of the car. Volkswagen is offering Xenon headlamps on the Beetle while air bags and other safety measures are standard on every model. The Beetle used to be a practical and affordable family car but its affordable days are long behind. Today the car represents class and owners are usually quite well off.
