Volkswagen at CES 2017
|   Sunday, January 15, 2017
Faithful to the slogan "We are always on," Volkswagen allowed visitors to experience their ideas about the future of mobility at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in 2017.

In the age of digitalization, Volkswagen departs from the classical relationship between customer and car, orienting towards a new mobile community – smart connectivity and beneficiary of a sustainable transport. The focus is on individual online users and on their personal digital preferences.

Through the digital platform Volkswagen Ecosystem visitors can easily configure the settings and personal services with the Volkswagen user's own ID, and access them anywhere they want, because they do not depend on a particular vehicle. Visitors could experience live all the innovative features of the Volkswagen Ecosystem.

Even today, almost all Volkswagen models come with App Connect. No matter what smartphone customers using, practically any device can be integrated via MirrorLink, Auto Android or Apple CarPlay. At CES, the company showed that the systems from vendors fit perfectly with the Volkswagen Ecosystem. The man, car and the environment are interconnected via ID Volkswagen user. With this user ID, the drivers will be able in the future to have all settings and personal digital services wherever they are - no matter the Volkswagen vehicle (personal or rented) or service provider used. This creates a completely new user experience.

In addition, the company presented the following key steps of intuitive use by means of the Volkswagen Cockpit Digital 3D systems, Eyetracking (monitoring eye movements) and AR Head-up Display (transparent display into the driver's vision). All these options combine perfectly into the I.D. model, a vehicle concept for a new era. It combines the connected digital world, with an electric car that can drive entirely autonomously if desired. The areas of Volkswagen's innovation, namely Connected Community, Intuitive Use, Smart Durability and Automatic Driving are combined in a single vehicle.
Eyetracking gives an idea about how to use the vehicle options even more quickly and easily, in combination with touch and gesture controls. Finally, the virtual worlds and the real one merge into a single world with the AR Head-up Display.

This system projects the virtual information in a graphical way in front of the vehicle. The natural positioning of such information, even on the road, integrates perfectly the display into the landscape, so it can be easily seen and understood immediately by the driver - in addition, it significantly reduces the risk of diverting the driver's attention.

The visionary concept car with I.D. idea promises a completely new driving experience. It is the first Volkswagen model based on the Modular Electric Drive Kit -MEB with a maximum range of 600 km.

"At the same time, it sets standards for connectivity and user operation concepts. Many of the innovations which we are showing at this year's CES can be found in the I.D.," stated Christian Senger, Product Line Leader for the I.D., adding that "The production version will launch in 2020. The show car we are showing today already forges links to the year 2025 – as the first Volkswagen concept car to offer the fully autonomous 'I.D. Pilot' driving mode. At CES, Volkswagen is presenting this concept car to the American public for the first time."
