Volkswagen Amarok Canyon exclusive review
|   Monday, August 04, 2014
Whenever Limited Edition is added with a car's name, manufacturing brand has an excuse to hike up the price tag. This is what has happened for Volkswagen Amarok Canyon Limited Edition, as all extras added can still not make up for its #7,841 GBP price tag for an eight speed automatic transmission variant.

Although a six speed manual transmission variant is available as basic version, with a price tag that cuts off a few thousand GBP from its eight speed counterpart, still both the prices are unjustified.
Yes there are designs changes that make it look better and meaner, but let's face the truth, it is not a two seater coupe or a sports car; it is a pickup truck after all.

Only 350 units of this model are going to be produced, so it is not going to be seen often on the road. Even if there were more units, it would be safe to say that you would see only 350 on the road. No one would be two keen to buy a buffed up high priced pickup truck.

Yea, 19 inch alloy wheels will replace the standard ones. Yes, there is going to be special styling bars. There is also going to be heated leather seats. Even a six inch touch screen has been added which can be used for infotainment purposes and comes with satellite navigation. Still, the price tag is a little too heavy to digest. However, it is worth a try and can be dominant over other contemporaries like Ford Ranger and Mitsubishi L200, because they are also pickup trucks.

It comes with a BiTDi engine that has a capacity of 2 liters. Power output of this engine variant is marked at 178 bhp which peaks at 4000 rotations per minute. However, its peak torque of 310 lb ft is accessible at a much lower 1750 rotations per minute.

Top speed is limited at 108 miles per hour, and it is justified. You are not expected to go racing with a pickup truck. 0 to 62 miles per hour time is 11.3 seconds. It is quite economical as far as fuel is concerned, travelling over 34 miles per gallon.

It is kind of a fun ride. Being beefy and mean looking with high platform, it gives a firm ride. It feels powerful, and has enough leg space and head space. However, noises are a tad bit high as compared to other contemporaries.

Interior of this car is quite classy though, with heated leather seats and leather upholstery. There is some other multimedia and related features that can be enjoyed during the ride. Some work done in plastic, however, is kind of an eyesore. It kills the overall ambience.

It is an ideal car for those who travel around a lot, both on as well as off road, and carry a lot of thing with them. If it was just a bit cheaper, it would have an advantage over all other similar cars presently available in the market.
