Vintage S of Martin V12 versus MP4-12C of McLaren
|   Friday, September 19, 2014
Undoubtedly both Vintage S of Martin V12 and MP4-12C of McLaren are winners. But as a fan or a buyer you have to choose any one of them. Both are made in British, both are amazingly designed and both are really powerful. Also it may be a surprising element that both of these models' prices are almost same. Vintage S comes at £138,000 and MP4-12C is fixed at a price of £130,000.
Judging a supercar by its speed, running cost or warranty length is not what one should be looking for.
A supercar is known for its comfort, luxury and providing everything what you want. McLaren brought the model MP4-12C which is a used car but considering its next generation features such as 3.8 liter V8 engine with twin turbo features, carbon fiber tub etc. suggest that it has latest configuration.
Though these all features were continued from its previous 12C GT3 which had come in 2011. The MP4-12C was known to be MP4 only and later it was renamed to 12C only. Because of retaining this 12C in its new model company had to reduce its cost which was originally £168,000.
This new model got benefitted in terms of powers which went up to 616 BHP from 592 BHP and few recalibrations took place in its engine and software departments. 650S from McLaren was also introduced this year and company decided to stop manufacturing 12C after it. So they recalled for upgrade in its remaining 3000 cars to give them the latest look and power.
McLaren had a better view about upgrades. They argued if software and application update and upgrades are possible then why upgrades cannot be applied on automotive features. With this positive attitude they went on to upgrade old cars from all over the world.
On the other hand, Ason Martin's model is a completely new one. But it simply gives the experience of an old designed car. Since 2005, company has been bringing various models with a bit of changes but design is just a mere revised one. Though few changes are applied in it but all basic functions are retained as before.
In terms of slip difference Aston has certain limitations. It retained its 6.0 liter with V12 engine emitting 565 PHP power. Its rear wheels are run on a little awkward shifted manual gearbox. It has got dual clutch engineering but has no LSD.
Inside Aston's new model most of the products are of industry standard. You will probably feel that these are made handbuilt. Albeit assembled materials are there which have an aluminum finish that makes the interior look really pretty. However the transmission tunnel should not be that much higher.
Aston Martin has been producing fine grand tourers but Vantage S V12 has not left a big impression. McLaren is really fast and satisfies all your desires except the outright feature where as Aston Martin offers less satisfaction for buyers but it fulfills all the tasks very efficiently for which it has been made.
