Vauxhall's New VXR8 GTS, Taken for a Spin
|   Friday, March 14, 2014
Vauxhall's latest VXR8 GTS is a high performance sports sedan capable of displacing 576 BHP It is based on a rear wheel drive train, although its dimensions make it a considerably large creation. However, this vehicle has a boost gauge that makes it less scary than it actually is. Performance, as a result is well spaced, while its 6.2 liter turbo charged V8 engine block produces sufficient power to keep this vehicle grounded at all times.

No other car manufacturer in the UK is as versatile as Vauxhall, in terms of production variants.
If you think that the current generation vehicle was mean, aggressive and powerful, you definitely have no idea what its successor is made out of. We have reports of switchable performance modes, larger brakes, launch control and a heavily face lifted exterior, making debut in this vehicle.

The new power train is based on a Camaro LS3, although various modifications have been made to make it a standard fit on this vehicle. Even though on paper it may seem that this vehicle red lines at 576 BHP, although on road, it may fare a little better. Various Drive Preference modes have been added for enhanced feel, while Touring and Track modes are more progressive than the lot.

New exhaust pipes offer all new engine note, while a peppy tune feels good on long journeys. Excellent throttle response is achieved along with smooth gear shifts and you will be surprised at the smooth character of this engine. Excellent braking potential has been added along with an elegant weight distribution system, which works together to promote decent drive feel.

The only down side to the latest VXR8 GTS, is its steering potential. This vehicle seems to under steer at times, which is quite disruptive at times. Long journeys on this vehicle are surprisingly well and the car performed eloquently when we took it for a spin along the smooth French landscape. Interior could do with a little more work, as it is unorganized and chaotic at parts. You are occasionally reminded of the Holden engineering parts beneath this vehicle, as they rattle from time to time.

Plastic bits similar to ones used in the Commodore are also found in some parts. However, it is perfect value for money and if you do not mind some of these cheap parts, it is a valuable investment. Priced at £54,499, this vehicle competes with Mercedes Benz's E63 and BMW's M5 at the price point. However, both of these machines offer everything that the VXR8 GTS does and better.

However, driving a Vauxhall has its own charm and with the considerable modifications having been done to this vehicle, it is a whole new experience. This is a practical vehicle, known for speed, refinement, fuel economy and CO2 emissions. Hence, if you can overlook cheap interior bits and parts, along with general build quality, it offers a great deal for the buck. Stay tuned for more updates regarding Vauxhall and all their upcoming vehicles.
