Vauxhall showcases the latest generation of the Adam
|   Monday, January 28, 2013
Vauxhall is all set to launch the new edition of its hot selling small city car – the Adam. The Fiat 500 was the first small car that looked cute as well as provided performance enough to be bewildered. With the mass success of the 500, many car makers were inspired to try out something new in the field and the Vauxhall Adam was born.

Vauxhall is offering three trim levels for the Adam – Glam, Jam and Slam – with 12 optional exterior paint schemes, three vinyl schemes as well as a list of added accessories.
Vauxhall also has a whopping list of 20 rim designs. Therefore, you could pick out any combination and still manage to own a unique Adam anywhere you go. Vauxhall is clearly trying to make the Adam unique from all angles and no stone is being left unturned to achieve this.

The interior has also been face lifted and the new LED pattern on the dashboard is a thing of beauty. The Adam starts from a price range of £11,225 and continues up to £14,295. Although the Adam is small, it packs in quite a lot of power under its small bonnet. The vehicle is powered by 1.4 liter supercharged engines which are available in 86 BHP and 99 BHP displacement modes.

However, the older five speed manual transmission system has been replaced with new six speed manual transmission system. The older gear box was stiffer and tended to break down. The new one is awesome and does not feature any such possibilities. Vauxhall is also planning on installing smaller 1.0 liter engines for city use, although this has not been officially confirmed.

No matter which model you choose, fuel consumption will always be more than 50 MPG which is sufficiently more than what a person could need for city commuting. The 1.0 liter engine could however return close to 70 MPG, although this has not been formally tested yet. A diesel platform is however not being considered and Vauxhall does not plan on launching diesel variants of any of its vehicles.

Although the Adam seems to be perfect from all angles, it is not a fun to drive vehicle although it is pure value for money. The ride quality is decent and everything feels nice and tight from the inside. The suspension setting is quite comfortably done and the interior trim level is acceptable. The ergonomics of the Adam is better than those of either the Mini or the Fiat 500 however this vehicle does resemble a nutshell.

Vauxhall is confident that people will neglect the mediocre exterior design and opt for this vehicle simply because of its complete drive dynamics. This is a fact as the Adam provides one of the best overall ergonomics in the segment. The smaller capacity of the engines is a thing of concern. However it does not affect the morale of a person who intends to keep it basically for city commuting. The Adam truly is a one of a kind vehicle.
