Vauxhall Showcases the Cascada at the Geneva Motor Show
|   Saturday, March 16, 2013
Vauxhall showcased the latest Cascada at the Geneva Motor Show last week. The vehicle is based on an extended wheel base like most other cabriolets in the mid segment and is an overall practical vehicle.

The Cascada provides a comfortable ride and is quite environment and pocket friendly. However, the brand name could make a difference and although the Vauxhall Cascada provides a balanced ride, it remains to be seen if people still throng to the big players such as BMW, Mercedes Benz, Audi and Volkswagen etc.
for similar vehicles at the same price point.

However, the Cascada provides better efficiency and refinement than a premium segment vehicle from an established brand and this could turn out to be the dark horse of the dark hours of the segment. General dimensions and interior space make a general difference and the Cascada compares to an Audi A5, Volvo C70 or the BMW 3 Series vehicles in terms of interior space.

The vehicle is however priced in accordance with the Audi A3 or BMW 1 Series cabriolet and this means more specs for a better price. Vauxhall has installed adjustable rear seats on the Cascada and this means that people over 6 feet in height will be able to fit in comfortably. The Cascada is designed on the Vauxhall Delta II platform featured on the Astra and this is a stable platform capable of holding together bigger and more efficient vehicles.

The wheel base of the Cascada is quite close to that of the Insignia while the styling has been done in a more elegant manner. The proportions are appealing and minor details have been laid out efficiently. The ride comfort is high and this is due to the abrupt suspension settings. The Cascada may not be drop dead gorgeous but people will find it appealing to some extent.

The 1,4 liter turbo charged petrol engine along with the 1.6 liter variant make up the petrol engine lineup while displacing 138 BHP and 168 BHP respectively. The diesel lineup consists of a 2.0 liter supercharged engine displacing 163 – 192 BHP. The engines are mated to a six speed transmission system (manual or automatic) while featuring all wheel drive technology.

The Macpherson strut suspension up front and at the rear provide optimum support for the vehicle while GM's torque steer technology have been fitted as standard on the vehicle. The 1.6 liter petrol engine on the vehicle is the most powerful and opted for in the lot.

Vauxhall is planning to install a gasoline engine on future models although its viability is being considered at the moment. The gear ratios are quite smooth and this calls for perfect handling and performance. The body structure is stout and robust with Flexi ride dampers and this enhances the performance of the standard dampers in the vehicle. Dynamic tuning however requires work and the general ergonomics of the Vauxhall Cascada could be improved. However, priced at £28,605, this is enough ‘car' for low cost and that should be adequate.
