Vauxhall Reveals New Engine on Astra GTC
|   Saturday, January 11, 2014
Vauxhall has just unveiled a 1.6 liter, 197 BHP displacing, direct fuel injected, four cylindered petrol engine, for its Astra GTC. It is based on the same power train, currently seen in Vauxhall's Cascada convertible and produces 221 ft lb of torque. Insiders say, when this new engine makes it to production models, the GTC will become the most powerful, non VXR model, in their lineup.

The GTC has a top speed of 143 MPH and can accelerate from 0 – 60 MPH within 7.
seconds. Astra VXR owners claim to have done the same in less than 5.9 seconds, with a top speed of 155 MPH. Engineering improvements have been made to its drive train, while major exterior and interior upgrades are also expected. Its engine is more refined, produces less noise and vibrations, as twin balancer shafts have been added to ensure a smooth run.

Insiders also claim an increase in maximum power by 30%, over the turbo charged variant of the 1.6 liter Astra GTC. Fuel efficiency is close to 51 MPG while 154 g/km of Co2 is emitted. Vauxhall is also aiming high on infotainment by introducing an intellilink infotainment system in every GTC unit, priced at £855. This includes a seven inch touch screen with Bluetooth connectivity and satellite navigation.

Vauxhall is currently offering five modes on this vehicle, namely Sport, SRi, VXR, Bi-Turbo and Limited Edition. Safety features have been enhanced while a complete drive experience is promised. The Astra GTC is available for order now, with prices starting from £20,995. The company hopes to commence deliveries this spring, as this model has already entered production.

This vehicle looks and drives perfectly on road, while performance models do considerably well on track too. An upgraded suspension on a reinforced chassis, work in its favor and this new engine is the first major development on this vehicle, since it was launched back in 2011. Sales have picked up over time, although insiders are currently looking for an increase in demand. Basic Mechanical specifications remain the same, with a few replacement parts being added.
