Vauxhall Planning to Reveal Astra VXR Extreme at Geneva Next Week
|   Tuesday, March 04, 2014
Vauxhall has made considerable improvement in terms of vehicle development since it was first introduced to the European market, back in 1903. Performance seems to have caught the eye of Vauxhall's engineers, as they have been constantly coming up with a new performance model after another. However, their latest front wheel drive Astra VXR Extreme is a notch higher than other standard creations.

Expected to be showcased at the Geneva Motor Show this month, this Limited Edition variant is capable of reaching top speeds of 155 MPH, while accelerating from 0 – 60 MPH within 5.
seconds. Once you consider Vauxhall's creations in the past, this vehicle seems to be in a league of its own. Powered by a turbo charged 2.0 liter petrol engine, capable of displacing 276 BHP along with 296 ft lb of torque, this vehicle has everything that a sports enthusiast could be looking for.

We are unaware of drive dynamics on this vehicle and will not be able to comment on the scenario. We however have news about this vehicle being 100 kg lighter than Vauxhall's standard Astra VXR. We therefore have a general idea of what this vehicle could feel like, on road.

The Astra VXR is a stable vehicle, with little wheel spin or body roll. Now take away 100 kg from that and we will be left with a vehicle, capable of smooth cornering and better acceleration. This is all what an enthusiast needs and expects a vehicle to deliver. Smaller engine blocks provide decent amounts of fuel efficiency and CO2 emission. This makes the VXR Extreme, quite a practical choice for many.

Extensive use of aluminum in designing the external panels is recorded, which play a major role in weight reduction strategies. Steel has also been avoided in the Extreme's roof and side panels. Agility and handling, as a result, have improved significantly while braking has been enhanced thanks to six piston Brembo calipers. 19 inch rims are available for standard fit, even as larger rim sizes are available.

Safety parameters have been taken care of, while additional racing kits are on offer. Ultra high performance Recaro seats are in place to provide sufficient grip and support, while lending a sporty feel to its cabin. The standard price of the Vauxhall Astra VXR is £27,260 and without formal price announcements for the Extreme variant, we can only expect a premium over its base price tag.

We are yet to view actual pictures of the car, as Vauxhall has just revealed official renderings of this vehicle. For more information regarding Vauxhall's Astra VRX Extreme, stay tuned. We will get back to you with a complete drive overview soon, as we plan on taking the proto type for a spin on track.

Judging from available information, Vauxhall has made a few notable changes to base engineering, which gives this vehicle an edge of standard market competitors. Final announcements are hard to come by, at this stage, although we hope to come up with details soon.
