Uniqueness Costs: 2.5 Million Euros For Only Car In The World Made Of Titanium
|   Monday, August 22, 2016
The first supercar in the world made of titanium is on sale. Icona Vulcano Titanium is the only car in the world built entirely from titanium. Production amounted to 10,000 hours of manual work, hence the exorbitant price.

There are enough eccentric people with millions of euros in their account to throw around - probably what Icona was thinking, an Italian design house with headquarters in Shanghai. The artists have thought that there might be a customer for the only car made of titanium and then started to make it.

Thus, the Vulcano Titanium was born, a supercar produced in a single copy, valued at 2.5 million euros (2.78 million dollars). The only car in the world made of titanium has a price that equals that of famous models produced by Bugatti, Pagani and Koenigsegg. However, the price is fully justified by the long production process and the 10,000 hours of manual labor.

Their magical hands have contributed to this jewel on four wheels. The gray matte color is noteworthy: it is not paint, but finished material and left unpainted, just to emphasize the fact that the car is made of titanium and is not a joke.

Vulcano first debuted in 2013 as a design exercise by those from Icona. Back then, the prototype had an aluminum bodywork and composite materials. Last year, during the Elegance Contest at Pebble Beach Icona unveiled the final version of the car that it sells today.

In addition to the titanium bodywork the Icona Volcano benefits from a set of alloy wheels in measuring 20 and 21 inches, with Pirelli P Zero tires and Brembo brake system, with carbon ceramic discs, six piston front and four back.

The cabin is actually a carbon fiber cell, lined with Alcantara and Poltrona Frau leather. The place of the instrument cluster is held by a digital display, 12.3 inches in size, while the multimedia system is projected on a second screen with touch feature and buttons inspired by those found on fighter aircraft. The seats are also constructed of carbon fiber and are Sabbelt origin.

The heart of the new titanium supercar is a V8 engine with a displacement of 6.2 liters, borrowed from the Chevrolet C6 Corvette ZR1, positioned in front, but behind the previous axis to provide a better road grip. Total power is 670 hp and torque reaches the huge value of 840 Nm. All resources are transmitted to the rear axle by means of a box with paddles located behind the steering wheel. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h is achieved in about three seconds and maximum speed stops at 355 km / h.

Going from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62mph) is estimated at 2.8 seconds and Icona claims it will run the Nürburgring's Nordschleife track in just 7 minutes 20 seconds. That is on par with the latest generation Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and almost a second behind the Nissan GT-R.

Icona Vulcano Titanium will be present at this year's Salon Privé Concours d'Elégance taking place in the United Kingdom, between the 1st and 3rd of September and will be place where a buyer will be found, hopefully.
