Toyota showcased the South African built Hilux Bakkie at the Good Wood Festival of Speed

Toyota has unveiled the South African designed rally car, the Hilux Bakkie at the recently concluded Good Wood Festival of Speed. The car is powered by a massive V8 and is the fore runner for Toyota in all the international rallies and especially the Dakar Rally in South America.

Toyota had three Hilux Bakkies competing at the world's toughest and longest motor racing track and the cars finished unbelievably at the third, fifth and tenth positions at their first attempt.
The cars were driven by Stellenbosch's Giniel de Villiers, Johannesburg's Duncan Vos and Argentine Lucio Alvarez respectively.

Stellenbosch's Giniel de Villiers is a former Dakar champion and an ardent racing fan and no doubt he was the first choice when it came to introducing the Hilux V8 in front of the world. According to reports, the Hilux Bakkie is the first complete South African vehicle to be participating in the rally and no doubt it is a proud moment for the country.

Toyota was present at Good Wood with a total collection of race cars, rally trucks and off road vehicles both from the past and present and this proved to be a huge crowd puller. This event also coincided with the launch of the GT86 sports coupe in the United Kingdom.

Everything from standard street vehicles, to track cars to even off road vehicles were present at Toyota's kiosk at the hill climb and this turned out to be a fairly successful expo for the Japanese car making company.
The Good Wood Festival of Speed also showcased the Toyota TS030 Hybrid sports car in UK for the first time and the car made its track debut in the 24 Hours Le Mans held a couple of months earlier. Sticking to the 24 Hours Le Mans news, Gazoo Racing is all set to bring the Toyota 86 and the Lexus FA to the UK by next month and both the cars got a podium finish at the 2012 Nürburgring 24 Hours Le Mans.

Gazoo racing has also unveiled the twin turbo charged version of the 86 sports, the FR concept. This flat four engine features both the turbo charger and the super charger which boosts power to 196 kW. The suspension has been re tuned and the car features a full sports body kit and bigger brakes to engage all the power.

The new Toyota GRMN supercharged iQ sports a much smaller engine as compared to the FR concept, but this is adequately charged to participate in the hill climb challenge at Good Wood. The Toyota iQ was first showcased at the Tokyo Auto Show in early 2012 and it became an instant hit with the masses.

Accompanying the GT 86 at the Good Wood Festival of Speed were the Corolla AE 86, the original sports car from Toyota and the iconic 2000 GT, which inspired the designing of the GT 86. All the cars were superb and unique in their own ways and the Good Wood Festival of Speed proved to be very crucial for Toyota as it provided them with a platform to showcase all their important models.
