Toyota Prius C reviewed by Consumer Reports Magazine
|   Friday, June 01, 2012
Toyota Prius C, the cheapest hybrid from the stables of Toyota Motor Corp, has failed to impress the people at the Consumer Reports magazine. They claim that the car is very basic, and the ride is bumpy and noisy.

The Toyota Prius C, which went up against Honda Motor Co.'s Insight, in a comparison made by Consumer Reports magazine, scored a meager 53 out of 100, 1 less than the Insight. However, the magazine was quick to add that the Prius C offered the best mileage in the segment – 69 kilometers per gallon – the best mileage provided by any car tested so far.

Consumer Reports reported on its web site "The Toyota Prius C has a very basic feel to it while driving, and the car is bumpy and noisy. The overall feeling while driving the car was as if it were an econobox and not a sophisticated hybrid. We cannot recommend the buyers to go for the Toyota Prius C, as it is not up to the mark with so many hybrids available. However, the car scores when it comes to the question of reliability."

Cars made by Toyota, are rapidly taking over the American market, and automobile magazines are recommending Toyota to the buyers. However, the Prius C is the first case of "failure" seen by Toyota.

The magazines offer a large source of publicity for any car introduced in the market and car making companies depend greatly on their reviews, to grab a chunk in that segment of the market. The magazine Consumers Union, published by a New York based non – profit organization, is depended upon greatly by the car makers for an unbiased review as the magazine does not take advertisements, and they buy the cars that they test, so chances of any favoritism is avoided.

Joichi Tachikawa, a spokesperson for Toyota Motor Corp, said that the company was not in a position to comment at the moment, but they will look into the problems faced by the Prius C, if any.

The Prius C is part of the world's bestselling vehicles as it became the third bestselling vehicle in the first quarter of the year. Toyota has begun sales of the Prius C – known as the Aqua in Japan – in the US market in March and the car has sold a record 8,901 units within the first 49 days in the market, as claimed by the Toyota Motor Corp web site.

The reviews came as a shock for the ardent fans of Toyota Motor Corp and many people have decided to share their own reviews in this case. The viewers see skepticism by the Consumer Reports Web site and are sarcastically praising its work. The owners of the Prius C have come up to its support and they claim the vehicle performs just as it should. They claim there is nothing noisy or bumpy about the ride quality.

The owners claim that the Toyota Prius C does exactly what it is meant to do. It is not a Lexus or Cadillac, so that must be kept in mind before expecting something from a Prius C. Everyone is waiting for Toyota to officially comment on the situation now.
