Toyota Presented 3 Eccentric Concepts At Tokyo Motor Show

Toyota, the world's most valuable automotive brand, announced the list of concepts that they will exhibit at the Tokyo Motor Show. Besides various series updates to its models, Toyota will present three unique concepts within his stand, each more unusual than another.
We're talking about concepts like the Kikai, FCV Plus and S-FR, each of which is a design exercise for the Japanese brand. These design exercises present the company design studios' visions, even if those ideas may never reach the production line.

For those people in Japan who want a small car that does not look like a shoebox, Toyota built a concept by the rules of a classic hot-rod.
Just like its overseas "sisters", Kikai has suspension elements in plain view, all the useless body elements being removed. With so many details compressed per square meter, we are convinced that Toyota Kikai will attract enthusiasts of all ages eager to see this interpretation of an urban car. Kikai, in Japanese, means "car" by the way.

To keep the same original note, the designers opted for a three-seat cabin that brings the driver in the central position, having the passenger seats mounted a little behind. The gauges, four in number, are just like the models used by motorcycles and the three-spoke steering wheel is devoid of controls to fit the same original note as the exterior.

The only technical details we have at this time indicates the presence of a hybrid drive with a four-cylinder gasoline engine, positioned in the rear, mated to an automatic gearbox.

Looking closer at the funny architecture of this concept, we can guess that it actually provides a platform for a future production business model. But what production model may result? Of course, the upcoming Toyota MR-2. Even the wheelbase confirms that assumption - it is identical to the previous generation MR2, standing at 2,450 mm. Now imagine a dynamic convertible above this chassis greeting the rival Mazda MX-5.

Next, the S-FR Concept from Toyota presents the hypothesis of a GT86's younger brother.
Vehicle dimensions are 3990 x 1695 x 1320 mm. The wheelbase is 2480 mm and the prototype has some features inherited from the special version GT86 - Style Cb, presented in February.

Inside, it hides a digital dashboard dial, which stands out for its sharp colors, different buttons orders were limited to a maximum and the gear shift lever itself is minuscule.
Previously, information circulated that Toyota is preparing to launch an affordable sport car series, which would be an heir to the Sport coupe 800 (produced between 1965 and 1969) and the MR2 model (produced between 1984 and 2007).

And finally we have the FCV Plus that runs on hydrogen. Due to the huge glass area, the FCV Plus concept seems to be an aquarium on wheels. Despite its compact dimensions (3,800 x 1,750 x 1,540 mm) the cabin is extremely spacious, hosting four passengers, including 2 children.

The rear bench has original architecture, representing a safe structure covered with transparent plastic. The room inside was provided by the electric propulsion based on fuel cells placed very cleverly – the fuel cell pack is between the front wheels, the hydrogen tank is placed under the rear seats and the electric motors are integrated in each wheel.

According to the Japanese manufacturer the fuel cell package can be used to generate electricity for homes devastated by natural disasters.
