Toyota Mirai: Hydrogen-Powered Series Model Lands In Europe In Summer Of 2015
|   Friday, November 28, 2014
Toyota introduced the series version of the Mirai model, a hydrogen powered vehicle that will debut in 2015 on the European market. Range is set at 483 km.
The Toyota Mirai is the bestselling proposal of the Japanese manufacturer worldwide in terms of hydrogen-powered vehicles. The model was presented by Akio Toyoda, Toyota CEO, and the series version is a car whose debut was confirmed for next year in Japan, USA and Europe.

While, the Japanese can buy it from this spring, the Americans and Europeans will have access to the Mirai from next summer, said Toyota representatives.
The Mirai is the version number of the FCV concept presented last year at the Tokyo Motor Show. As we can see, almost all aesthetic features of Toyota FCV Concept were taken over by Mirai.

Mirai means "future" in Japanese and the model with that name has a maximum range of 483 kilometers. Refueling the hydrogen tank takes less than five minutes, say Japanese brand representatives.

"The name we've given to our new car is Mirai, which in Japanese means ‘future'. We believe that behind the wheel of the Mirai, we can go places we have never been, to a world that is better, in a car that is better. For us, this isn't just another car. This is an opportunity–an opportunity to really make a difference. And making a difference is what Toyota is all about. The future has arrived. And it's called Mirai" said Toyoda.

Toyota says Mirai's launch coincides with the moment they start developing a network of hydrogen fueling stations in the United States with a local partner, Air Liquide. With regards to the European market, Toyota representatives have not yet announced the development of a hydrogen filling station network. It would not be excluded they would work with rivals from Honda to develop this network, given that Honda introduced the concept of a hydrogen powered vehicle that they will launch on markets in Europe, Japan and the US in 2016.

Toyota Mirai costs seven million yen in Japan, which is the equivalent of 48,000 euro or 59,000 dollars. Like all other vehicle powered by hydrogen, the Mirai emits water vapor exhaust instead of conventional pollutants emitted by cars fueled with fossil fuels. The Japanese have worked 10 years at testing and developing the production version of Mirai. Toyota engineers have experienced all possible environments for their fuel cell car.

In the speech reveling the name of the car, Akio Toyoda said that "Today, we are at a turning point in automotive history. A turning point where people will embrace a new, environmentally-friendly car, that is a pleasure to drive. A turning point where a four-door sedan can travel 300 miles on a single tank of hydrogen, can be refuelled in under five minutes and emit only water vapour.

A turning point that represents many years and countless hours of work by our team to create a car that redefines the industry. After surviving millions of miles on the test track and 10 years of testing on public roads in freezing cold and scorching heat, after passing extensive crash tests, and after working with local governments and researchers around the world to help make sure it is easy and convenient to refuel, we are ready to deliver."
