Toyota Mirai, First Production Car Powered By Hydrogen, Received 1,500 Orders In A Month
|   Saturday, January 31, 2015
Toyota Mirai has already received 1,500 orders in the first full month that it was available on the market. The Japanese model was released only on its indigenous market, where there were more than 1,500 customers who have placed an order in the first month after announcing its availability.

Toyota representatives said they hoped to sell 400 units by the end of 2015 in Japan. However, the Japanese manufacturer will have to rethink the strategy of production and delivery.
This happens due to the fact that orders are triple in a month compared to expectations for the full year.

According to representatives from Toyota, approximately 60 percent of orders came from the government of Tokyo, and the fleet of private companies. Tokyo is the city where the Mirai model is most popular, most of the orders being performed in three prefectures of this city (Kanagawa Prefecture, Aichi Prefecture and Fukuoka Prefecture).

On the Japanese market, the Toyota Mirai costs about 62,000 dollars. The Japanese will soon launch this model on the United States market. In markets across Europe will see its debut by the beginning of 2016. The Japanese manufacturer has already informed customers, about the possibility to extend the delivery period for the batch of 1500 Mirai already ordered in a month.

In the US, the Toyota Mirai will have a price of 57,500 dollars. However, those from Toyota say it could benefit from combined state and federal incentives of up to 13,000 dollars. In this case the purchase price will decrease to about 45,000 dollars potential. Another option would be that Toyota will offer 499 dollars per month / 36 month lease option with 3,649 dollars due at signing the lease contract.

The fuel cells stack system of the Toyota Mirai combines hydrogen gas from reservoirs with oxygen to produce electricity. This electricity will power an electric motor of 152 hp (113 kW). The electric motor will engage the front wheels.

Toyota Mirai has a storage capacity of 122.4 liters. The hydrogen is stored in two tanks (one in front and one in back). Toyota argues that under a working pressure of 70 MPa, the tank can be refilled in about three minutes. In normal driving conditions, it is expected to last approximately 650 km.
Like Tesla, the people at Toyota have offered thousands of their global patents for hydrogen fuel cells to the ones interested, without royalties. In this way, the Japanese carmaker contributes to popularizing fuel cell vehicles.

Toyota Mirai has a range of 650 kilometers and is the first large series car offered with only this motorization. The only thing that ever results out of this vehicle's exhaust pipes is water, and according to representatives, it is even safe for human consumption and that in spite of the fact that it is produced by a car.
The market launch of this model has the potential to accelerate the process of energy source diversification, as well as help create a future in which hydrogen can be a basic energy source.
