Toyota Launches the Fourth Generation of the RAV 4
|   Wednesday, February 27, 2013
It has been 20 years since the first generation Toyota RAV 4 SUV had been launched in the market and Toyota has grand plans for its 20th birth anniversary. The fourth generation RAV 4 is ready to be unveiled and is based on Toyota's monocoque chassis. The compact 4 x 4 segment is stagnant in the UK and there is very little prospect for any new additions to this range.

The fourth generation Recreational Activity Vehicle 4 or the RAV 4 is directly based on its 1994 counterpart and has been designed to attract the buyers from the utility vehicle segment.
The vehicle is dynamic, sports friendly, luxurious and high in space. However, it is quite bulky, difficult to maneuver and does not compromise on fuel efficiency and CO2 emission. Therefore, considering the European economy, this might not be the best launch at the moment.

However, the RAV 4 has the potential to silence all its critics. This is one of the most potent of readers from Toyota and the vehicle has its own positive points that make it a potent best seller. The RAV 4 is in direct competition to the Nissan Qashqai, BMW X3, Mitsubishi ASX, Hyundai iX 35, Range Rover Evoque and the Audi Q5.

The RAV 4 is old school and Toyota knew that if they had to sell this car in 2013, they had to make this better than most ordinary soft riders on the road. The basic dimensions of this vehicle have been increased and Toyota expects the demand for the RAV 4 to go up further by the end of the year. The RAV 4 unlike most other SUVs is more maneuverable and responsive than normal SUVs, hence increasing the demand of the vehicle.

The ride height of the RAV 4 has been increased and the cabin has featured many additions such as new upholstery and panels. The driver's seat has been raised and this gives better view of the road. The new vehicle looks like a modern Toyota but does not resemble a modern RAV 4. The RAV 4 resembles an urban SUV more than a street robber.

The cabin is pleasant to stay inside and the suspension settings are quite comfortable for long rides. Maneuverability is decent and the steering column has been decently implanted hence making handling an easier task. The RAV 4 features Sport and Eco modes depending upon the terrain and power distribution and this further enhances the way the vehicle drives and feels.

There are 2.0 liter engine options on the RAV 4 and both turbo charged petrol and turbo diesel versions are available. The engines are mated to a six speed automatic and manual transmission system while the engine displaces 148 BHP. The engine is quite refined and 0 – 60 MPH comes in close to 10 seconds. Estimated fuel economy is 35 MPG and the 4 x 4 drive train make it a pleasure to drive over uneven terrain. Toyota has finally launched the worthy successor of the RAV 4.
