Toyota Camry Tops In Sales For 12th Straight Year
|   Sunday, October 12, 2014
For the 12th consecutive year, the Toyota Camry was the top-selling mid-sized car in the U.S. for 2013. For 2014, the Camry is likely to repeat as the number one mid-sized as its sales were cruising along through the end of June, the latest period for which full comparison data is available.

Citing that half-year snapshot of industry health, Forbes Magazine, one of the country's leading financial publications, and Autodata.com, a leading independent provider of automotive information, noted that Camry had sold 222,540 vehicles, an increase of seven percent over 2013.
Assuming that the sales rate remained the same over the summer, Camry's sales were likely to be nearly 300,000 vehicles by the end of August.

When the dust finally settles on 2014 model year sales, it is quite probably that Toyota will have sold over 340,000 Camrys. Given the fact that GM, sales were holding, while Honda sales had slipped 0.8 percent through the end of June to about 185,000 Accords, it looks like Toyota will be shoe-in for the top sales slot for 2014. That will have made Camry the 13th straight year, all other sales remaining steady.

In making the announcement, Toyota noted that the Camry line was also the number one selling mid-sized line in the same market for 16 of the last 17 years. If the Camry holds on to the number one sales spot, 2014 will be the 17th of the last 18 years that Camry will have held the number one spot.

For 2015, the Camry and Camry Hybrid are undergoing a major facelift. The changes include a bold new look for the front end that is centered on a new air intake located below the traditional bright grille. The grille retains its three-bar design with the top and bottom bars shrinking and the center bar carrying the new line and bright work. The traditional Toyota logo is in the center of the bar.

With four price points – SE, XSE, LE and XLE – the Camry is powered by either a 2.5-liter four (178 horsepower and 170 pounds feet of torque) or a 268 horsepower 3.5-liter V-6. The standard automatic transmission is a six-speed.
