Top Volkswagen Technologies Making Way For Automotive Revolution
|   Saturday, November 15, 2014
Like the giants from Apple, Google or Facebook, Volkswagen too is developing revolutionary technology in Silicon Valley. Among them it is an autonomous car and seven inventions that will change the automotive world in the coming years.

A car builder of Volkswagen's stature could not miss this tech wave and this is why the German brand has opened an electric research laboratory called ERL, right in Silicon Valley. Here, the brilliant minds of the Volkswagen Group are working on implementing new technologies in future series models.

Among them are autonomous cars, innovative safety systems and connectivity solutions. Here are some of the most important technologies scheduled to appear in the near future.

Autonomous Parking
This system allows the driver to exit the car and to park in a very narrow space, even with just 20 inches between other vehicles. The advantage of this system is that the parking maneuver can be abandoned immediately if dangers occur. Such technology is expected on the market in 2016.

Traffic Jam Pilot
The Traffic Jam Pilot takes complete control of the car in traffic at speeds up to 65 km / h. The system uses laser sensors, a scan function, a HD map with meticulous details and ultrasound cameras. All of these technologies will be coordinated by a central control ECU the size of an iPad.

Steering Wheel-Mounted Touchpad
This technology is still in its infancy. Volkswagen mounted a tactile surface on both sides of the wheel. The driver can more easily enter letters, tracing a finger on this surface. Basically, the touchpad, which you now find on the center console of BMW, Audi and Mercedes will be repositioned on the wheel. Writing a destination address for the GPS system will be much easier.

Connected Cars
Volkswagen hopes that the next five years will see connectivity between cars. It could allow cars to communicate with each other about traffic conditions or accidents, thereby improving flow and safety.

3D Printing
This technique is developed more and more in the automotive industry too. Volkswagen's Research Office in Silicon Valley noted that new products can be tested and then developed much faster. The prototypes can be brought to life in a few hours, not weeks. In addition, the development process is quick, and the path traveled by a model from the design phase to the launch is much shorter.

The iBeetle Application
The application can facilitate reading messages on social networks like Facebook and Twitter while walking. There is also the opportunity to take photos to be published instantly on a Facebook account. And everything can be published on Facebook about the car: mileage, autonomy, time spent in the car and even time spent with the roof folded.

Photo Souvenir
This invention comes with four standard GoPro cameras mounted in the four corners of the car. They take pictures every 5 seconds. During a trip for two hours, up to 6000 captured images are stored in a 32 GB memory.

Smart Accessories
There are a number of sporting goods, such as surfboards or bikes that can be connected to the car. This connection prevents theft. The owner is warned of alienation or abuse on his mobile phone or smart clock. When the object reappears, it automatically connects to the satellite and transmits its position to be found.
