The Volkswagen e-Golf Priced At 34,900 Euro

The Golf, the most successful European model of all times, is now available in a 100 percent electric version. The model is agile and efficient and it is priced from 34,900 Euro upwards, but that price includes numerous standard equipments, plus it offers a range of 190 km.

By launching the new e-Golf, Volkswagen brings the second electric vehicle to the market in just six months. Agile and efficient, the Volkswagen e-Golf impresses with extremely low consumption of only 12.
kWh / 100 km, being 15 percent more efficient than its direct competitor Nissan Leaf.

Said average consumption is 12.7 kWh per 100 km, the lowest in the segment, according to Volkswagen. Standard features are generous, including a navigation system, leather steering wheel, heated windscreen, air conditioning with automatic control, alloy wheels aerodynamically optimized and full-LED headlights.

The electric version of the Golf has an engine of 115 hp and 270 Nm, set in place of an internal combustion unit, which provides a sprint from 0 to 100 km / h in 10.4 seconds. From 0 to 60 km / h it takes 4.2 seconds. Maximum speed was not specified. The battery of 24.2 kWh is guaranteed for eight years or 160,000 kilometers, and provides a range of between 130 and 190 km, depending on driving style approach.

Contrary to all expectations, the electric version of Golf is more efficient in terms of cost than the economic model series ever offered on the market, also found throughout the Volkswagen offer.

We're talking about the XL1, a model that consumes 0.9 liters of diesel per hundred kilometers. Unfortunately, it will be built in a limited series 200 units, which means that a copy costs 110,000 euros in Germany.

There are many different ways to load the battery of the e-Golf model: via standard 7.2 kW on board charger. The optimal solution is available through 220 volt outlets. Thus, by using this outlet and the board charger, a battery can be charged in less than four hours. If the 220 volt connection is not available, the easiest alternative is to connect the standard charger into a 110 / 120 volt outlet, which needs about 20 hours to fully charge the battery.

It is possible to use the standard combined charging system (CCS). In this case, the car can be recharged at CCS charging stations fitted with quick DC charging stations up to 40 kW, which allows the battery to be charged to 80 percent in about 30 minutes.

The E-Golf has 2 technologies that allow the driver to control the energy drain on the vehicle: 3 driving profiles intended to conserve energy (Normal, Eco and Eco +) plus 3 different levels of regenerative braking (D1, D2 and D3/B).

To top it off, the e-Golf has a new look on the dashboard. The tachometer, normally found on the left side of the instrument panel, is replaced with a power display that indicates whether the unit is ready, the battery is being charged through regenerative braking, or if power is being drained.

On the right side, there is a conventional speedometer. The lower part of the speedometer has a battery status indicator that shows high voltage charging. The color display between the speedometer and the power indicator now indicates driving range, current level of regenerative braking and charging time left.
