The Third Generation BMW X5 Spied Testing at Nurburgring
|   Monday, May 06, 2013
The latest model of the BMW X5 has been spied testing extensively at the Nurburgring track. This is the third generation of SUVs from BMW and the vehicle is being tested extensively in the winter conditions. The X5 is set to be officially unveiled later this year and BMW plans on getting the minor details right with this car. The leaked images confirm the authenticity rumored images that were circulated earlier this year.

The styling cues borrowed from the 3 Series include the prominent front grille, as well as the front lamps and bumper which have also been used on the recently unveiled 4 Series Coupe.
The new X5 shares mechanical details with the X3 and most of the components under the hood are common in both vehicles. BMW is expecting huge sales in the UK as the X3 managed to score high with the European customers.

The styling cues will definitely enhance the appeal and visual aspects of this vehicle and BMW expects a rerun of 2011. The X5 features an enlarged wheel base along with enhanced interior space and this aims at providing better comfort and practicality of the vehicle. The up market interior of the X5 works well with the overall image of the vehicle and BMW's brand name and although interior specifications are not announced, experts believe BMW will not disappoint.

BMW could offer the third row of seats and the X% is most likely to be available in both five and seven seated versions. The multi link rear along with the double wish bone front suspension combination have been working well on SUVs from BMW and the company plans on using this on future models too.

However, the biggest surprise associated with the X5 is the power house under the hood. While BMW is tight lipped about the expected engine under the hood, experts claim that the company would prefer using a four cylindered turbo charged engine to rival the new Mercedes Benz ML 250 CDI. The X5 could see a 2.0 liter diesel powered 204 BHP displacing twin turbo engine under the hood.

The vehicle sports the xDrive 25d tag and therefore it is not likely to disappoint. The enhanced torque formation is expected to neutralize the gain in weight of this vehicle. Although road tests have not been performed, considering prior experience and BMW's expertise, the X5 is expected to be a tough ride and should handle free. Performance wise it should be a mammoth considering the sheer size of the machine.

BMW could also install V6 and V8 optional engines as it targets both the European and Chinese markets. A fair share of the vehicle will also be exported to America where the demand for SUVs is close to being saturated. BMW is also eyeing the Middle Eastern countries for launching the X5 as this vehicle fulfils the entire required criterion for launch. Details regarding the X5 will be announced shortly by BMW and the hype around this car is building up.
