The Subaru Impreza Dynasty - The Japanese Car Gets Its Fifth Generation
|   Thursday, April 14, 2016
Subaru unveiled at New York the next generation of the Impreza model in the sedan and hatchback versions. The new generation Subaru Impreza is built on the new global platform offering more comfort, safety and stability. The new Impreza will be available in Europe in early 2017.

Even if Subaru sales are modest at the European level, the Japanese brand manages to beat record after record in the US, where models developed by Japanese brand fits perfectly the American tastes.
This is also why Subaru has chosen the Auto Show in New York to present the latest generation Impreza, its sedan and hatchback versions, the Japanese model therefore reaching its fifth generation.

Safety on board of the new Impreza is at the highest level due to accident prevention systems such as Eye Sight, but the bodywork is more resistant to impact too. The new models are longer (4,625 mm / 4,460 mm) and wider (1,777 mm) with a wheelbase slightly longer (2,670 mm) while height is reduced (1,455 mm) to improve aerodynamics.

We do not see any radical changes to the interior, the only thing that catch the eye in the 8-inch display for the multimedia system.
However, in terms of design, Impreza has not brought a revolution, keeping the same classic design of the 90s, the most remarkable element being the rear lights.
Built on a global platform which Subaru will use in the future to assemble other products from its range (its official name is Subaru Global Platform), the new model will benefit under the hood from the contribution of an improved version of the Boxer gasoline engine, with a displacement of 2.0 liters, which is the backbone of the entire current Asian manufacturer's range.

Regarding that change, we find that the new engine now has direct injection and provides 4 extra horsepower, compared to the version which it replaces.
Seeing the figures are available for the US market, it is still early to announce whether this engine will offer 154 hp instead of 150 hp in Europe. But what we know is that the new Impreza will offer on the European continent diesel versions too, so that the Subaru remains on Europeans' wishlist.

Also, if in the US it has confirmed one transmission (a CVT), it is likely that the European version of the Impreza provides the option of a manual transmission. As usual for Subaru, the all-wheel drive system, Symmetrical AWD is part of the standard offer of the Japanese model.

Inspired by the esthetic point of view of the homonymous concepts presented by Subaru last autumn, the new Impreza sedan and Impreza hatchback are larger in size than previous generations, while the new platform gives the car a 70 percent higher rigidity compared with the model replaced.

Another improvement will be felt at the suspension level, with which Subaru has dropped by 50 percent the rolling and pitching movements of the chassis.
The new Impreza will be the first generation that will be produced in the United States and the launch on the American continent will take place later this year. Europe will have to wait, most likely until the beginning of 2017 to meet the new generation of the Subaru compact.
