The New Honda Civic Type R Hot Hatch: 280 HP And 270 km/h Top Speed
|   Tuesday, February 24, 2015
The new Civic Type R debuts in Geneva with the highest speed in the class.
The most powerful derivative of the Civic range will officially debut at the Geneva Motor Show, promoting highly advanced aerodynamics and able to allow to the new model to reach the highest top speed of the segment.

Hundreds of hours of computer-aided design and wind tunnel tests, have generated an outside that is quite spectacular, but at the same time very effective in the fight against air resistance.
Beyond the level of attraction exercised by the lines of the Type R, there is exceptional stability at high speeds provided by top values in terms of aerodynamic downforce.

The result is a top speed of 270 km / h, a value that cannot be touched by its competitors in the compact class hot hatch. An important part which works together with intensively studied aerodynamics to achieve that figure it is the new petrol engines with direct injection VTEC Turbo, the first turbocharged engine in the 18 years history of the Civic Type R range. The maximum power developed by the new engine will exceed 280 hp.

One of the aerodynamic elements with an essential role in optimizing the airflow equation is the flat surface of the floor of the vehicle bodywork, together with the aerodynamic diffuser on the rear of the car that generates the air currents that effectively glues the car to the asphalt.

The imposing spoiler has a special structure at the top designed to generate more aerodynamic downforce, while the front of the car shows the generous cutouts with the dual purpose of providing efficient cooling and generating the pressing currents for perfect stability at high speeds.

To maximize usage of the generous power resources offered by the new Type R, the braking system has been developed specifically for this model by the prestigious manufacturer Brembo and has perforated and ventilated discs with a diameter of 350 mm in front with 4-piston calipers.

"Honda has had four Type R model derivatives: the Civic, Integra, Accord and NSX. The engine in the new Civic Type R is unrivalled against all of them in terms of raw power, torque and engine response. The manual transmission allows the driver to select their chosen gear, for example, down from fifth to third when approaching a corner. The concept of the new Civic Type R is to be the complete driver's car, so this was the best option" stated Civic Type R project leader Suehiro Hasshi.
Equipped with that powertrain going from 0 to 100 km / h (62 mph) takes less than six seconds.

"In default standard mode, the Civic Type R is exceptionally agile, an everyday sports car with an enjoyable and fluid acceleration. The +R button brings out a more dynamic and athletic car for the driver, sure to set pulses racing. The difference in character is immense. The +R button is extreme; the car is ideal for the track and will be appreciated by the genuine sports driving enthusiast" continued Hasshi.

To complement its new engine, Honda also endowed the new Civic Type R with a range of dynamic characteristics. These include a four-point Adaptive Damper System made specifically for this model.
