The New Electric Mini Will Officially Be Made in England
|   Sunday, September 10, 2017
BMW announced the next step in its electrification strategy: the new Mini Electric will be produced in the UK. This will be a variant of the main model, the three-door hatch version.

The new all-electric Mini will go into production in 2019, increasing the range of Mini powertrains, including gasoline and diesel thermal engines, a hybrid plug-in model, and an electric one on batteries.

The Mini powertrain will be produced at the BMW Group's electro-mobility center at the Dingolfing and Landshut plants in Bavaria.
Then the engine will be integrated into the car at the Oxford plant, which is the main production center of the three-door MINI Hatch version.
In fact, electrification is one of the central pillars of BMW's NUMBER ONE> NEXT corporate strategy.

That's why the company has announced that all brands and range models will be electrified with a fully electric motor or plug-in hybrid to be offered additionally to the thermal engine variants. Additional electrified models will be available in the coming years.
In 2018, the BMW i8 Roadster will become the newest member of the BMW family. For the year 2020, the BMW X3 will be fully electric, and BMW iNEXT will follow in 2021.

By 2025, the BMW Group expects that the electrified (electric and plug-in hybrid) cars will account for between 15 and 25 percent of sales. However, factors such as regulations, incentives, and charging infrastructure will play a major role in determining the magnitude of electrification from market to the market.

To respond quickly and appropriately to customer demand, the BMW Group has developed a unique flexible system throughout its global production network. In the future, the BMW Group production system will create structures that allow heat engine models, plug-in hybrids, or fully electric motors to be manufactured simultaneously.

Currently, the BMW Group produces electrified models at ten factories around the world. Starting from 2013, all major electric motor components for these cars come from the company's factories in Dingolfing and Landshut. Additionally, the Dingolfing factory produces hybrid versions of the BMW 5 Series and BMW 7 Series, and from 2021 BMW iNEXT will be produced.

So far, the BMW Group has invested a total of over 100 million euros in electro-mobility at Dingolfing, and the investment continues as the BMW Group's electrified automobile range is expanding further.

At present, the BMW Group offers the widest range of electrified vehicles of any automaker in the world, with nine models already available on the market.
This range varies from the all-electric BMW i3 to the latest electrified model of the company, the Mini Cooper S E Countryman ALL4, a Mini Countryman hybrid version plug-in made by VDL Nedcar in the Netherlands. The company is committed to sell 100,000 electrified cars in 2017 and will have a total 200,000 electrified vehicles on the road by the end of the year.

Oliver Zipse, BMW Management Board member for Productio, declared that “BMW Group Plants Dingolfing and Landshut play a leading role within our global production network as the company’s global competence center for electric mobility. Our adaptable production system is innovative and able to react rapidly to changing customer demand. If required, we can increase production of electric drivetrain motor components quickly and efficiently, in line with market developments.”
