The New Audi R8 With 610 Horsepower Officially Debuted

Once it revealed the new laser headlights on the new R8 the guys from Audi have decided to officially reveal its supercar that reached its second generation. The new R8 made the official debut at the Geneva Motor Show. Here, it hopes to attract public attention from another important launching in the segment: the new generation Honda NSX.

Developed on a new platform, the R8 V10 is 50 kilograms lighter than its predecessor. The progress is evident in the case of the R8 V10 Plus, the top version of the supercar from Ingolstadt, which weighs only 1454 kilograms.
This process of weight reduction is due to development around the new Audi Space Frame chassis that combines aluminum and CFRP (Carbon fiber reinforced polymer).

Under the bodywork lies a single engine, the already known 5.2-liter V10, used by Lamborghini's Huracan, its Italian brother. The ten-cylinder engine is offered in two power versions: the first delivers 540 hp and 540 Nm of torque while the R8 V10 Plus enjoys the service of 610 horses and 560 Nm of torque.

Both engines will be associated with the S-tronic automatic transmission with seven reports. It is the only transmission option, whereas the new generation will no longer be ordered with a manual gearbox. The resources of both versions will be delivered to both axles via a quattro all-wheel drive. It can even send 100 percent of the torque to a single axis.

The basic version needs 3.5 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h and can reach a top speed of 323 km / h. In the case of top version, it substantially improves performance: acceleration to 100 km / h is done in 3.2 seconds and top speed stops at 330 km / h.

While it is not a defining characteristic for choosing a supercar, one must remember the fuel consumption of the R8. The supercar is 10 percent more efficient than the old model, just because it uses a start-stop system. On top of it, they also added Cylinder On Demand technology, which stops a line of cylinders from functioning. Basically, the car remains with the only five-cylinder in situations where there is no need for all the resources: most likely in the city.

In these circumstances, the R8 V10 consumes on average 11.8 liters / 100 km and has emissions of 275 g / km. In the case of R8 V10 Plus, average consumption is 12.4 liters / 100 km and emissions amount to 289 g / km.

As it can be observed, the new R8 has angular lines that we have already seen on its younger brother Audi TT. We are not missing the sharp optical blocks, the impressive grille, and carbon fiber wind deflector, used on the top version R8 V10 Plus. Also, it makes use of other aerodynamic elements that increase aggression, but improves the aesthetics of the Ingolstadt model.

The interior is guided by the same simple lines that Audi is trying to get used to. Behind the wheel the new 12.1 inch screen makes its way, which replaces the classic instrument cluster. The dashboard has been simplified and remains oriented towards the driver. Also note the presence of air vents with three-dimensional design, which refer to the circuit models of the German manufacturer.
