The MINI John Cooper Works feature advanced engine and transmission features
|   Tuesday, September 18, 2012
MINI has launched the John Cooper Works with cutting edge designing, hard to beat, top end performance and a suitable transmission. The motorsport background of MINI is visible in the John Cooper Works and the company has set itself a benchmark in terms of overall performance, exterior designing and efficiency.

The new MINI has a revolutionary four cylindered engine which produces 160 KW @ 6,000 RPM and 280 NM of torque @ 1,900 – 5,000 RPM. However, the highlight of this engine is its ability to deliver 300 NM torque at the mid range near 2,100 RPM and 4,500 RPM.

This sudden burst lends the car an instant acceleration in the mid range and a sports exhaust system is mated to the total setup to enhance performance. The engine also delivers a deep bass sound and this is quite pleasing to the ears of a layman.

The twin scroll super charged engine on the MINI features both diesel and petrol variants and is based on the BMW valve technology. The throttle enhancement increases both fuel efficiency and power of the engine and the exterior air inlets prevents the engine from overheating and continue the air supply to the gas discharger.

Apart from the air inlets, the 1.6 liter engine also has an inter cooler and hence does not suffer from the problems of overheating. The piston heads and cam shafts are made of aluminum and this reduces the weight of the engine and hence aids acceleration.

The MINI John Cooper has an integrated six speed manual transmission mated to the engine with the option of a six speed automatic transmission also available. The transmission systems have undergone a few minor tweaks to make them capable of handling the excess power produced by the engine.

The low friction chain sprocket, light crankshafts and highly tensile cylinder also enhance performance and the sodium lined exhaust system helps cool the engine in case of overheating. The driver can change the gear of the John Cooper manual with the help of the normal gear knob or the shafts present behind the steering wheel.

The John Cooper also features a mode change button which allows the vehicle to change from acoustic to sports mode and this helps the car in different road conditions by changing the drive train features.
The MINI John Cooper Works – both the automatic and manual - accelerates from 0 – 100 km/h in under 7 seconds and the car has a top speed of 223 for the manual and 225 km/h for the automatic.

The John Cooper Works has fuel efficiency @ 7.4 liters per 100 km with Co2 emission rate close to 172 g/km. Mini also provided it with loud audio system and also audio CD and radio options. The navigation is advanced and the owner is provided with Phone adapter, Bluetooth device and also Facebook, Twitter and wide range of informant and communication facilities. The Countryman is expected to be out on market in early 2013. Advance booking starts from November 2012.
