The \"Hot-Hatch\" Hatchbacks Makes a Comeback
|   Tuesday, November 06, 2012
The 2012 Paris Motor Show experienced the restitution of hot hatches. The term hatches relates to hatchback. But hot hatch is a three or five door, high performance acquired pattern of body type of a vehicle. Cars of this types having aerodynamic body parts, large wheels, improved suspensions and a powerful internal combustion engine are usually front wheel drive with petrol engine mounted in front basically are family oriented.

Diesel powered vehicles are generally four wheel drive and now days' electric petrol hybrid cars are available in market.
The term hot-hatch came to use in 1980s in Britain. In US they are knows as saloons and small coupes.

The car that made the name hot-hatch so popular is none other than the Volkswagen Golf GTI. In 1975 the car was announced at the Frankfurt Motor Show. However it was not the first hatchback since there were many cars in earlier seventies to adapt the sportier hatchback looks such as the Simca 1100 and Renault 5 Alpine.

Then in the eighties and nineties the interest of family hatchback with sports performance started to grew and almost all car manufacturers started to build hot-hatch. Some of the vehicles had special performance modification to gain popularity. Some of the famous cars were Ford Fiesta XR2, Peugeot 205GTI and 309 GTI and Renault 5 Turbo.

In post 2000 Alfa Romeo, Opel, Vauxhall, Mini Cooper and John Cooper Works got popularity. But then came the era of sedans, SUVs and the concept cars. Everyone thought that the hatchbacks will be obsoleted but with new demand came the new hatchbacks to compete with the better luxury and performance.

The manufacturers modified the cars with respect to the needs and the market. So the hatchbacks are here and they are in demand. The manufactures giving effort to improve the hatches and the buyers are buying them. They are not losing their popularities.

For many years there was a battle for the hot-hatch king title. The main competitors were Vauxhall, Ford, Volkswagen, Renault and Peugeot. Vauxhall and Ford were absent in the battle for few years but they are back and ready to fight again. The Vauxhall Astra, Ford Focus, VW Golf GTI etc. are some of the new generation hot-hatches.

At the Paris Auto Show the VW Golf GTI, the Audi S3, the Renault Sport Clio and the Peugeot 208 GTi were in the stands. Compare to the old hatches the Peugeot gave the 208 a new angry look which is good, but only the looks is not enough.

The performance is important and so the new hot hatches are given both to compete in the present market. To justify the performance and looks of the new hot-hatches they are named warm-hatches which offer improved performance and looks.

Now the hatchbacks are not going to be vanishing from the car market so soon and the manufacturers are planning to produce new vehicles for future generation with the improvements of tomorrow. Some of such ideas are Lexus LF-Ch, Honda CRZ, and Audi RS3 etc.
